Email in: Blood angels drop pod list

Hey Kirby, it's Eddie here.

I've been toying around with this idea - Blood Angels drop pods at 2k

Libarian: 100

Furioso, magna grapple, 2 blood talons and drop pod with locator beacon: 185

Vanguard veteran squad, jump packs. Sergeant has thunder hammer and storm shield, one vet has power fist and storm shield, three others have melta bombs: 260

Dreadnought, multimelta, heavy flamer and drop pod with locator beacon: 160

Totals: 2000

Blood lance and shield for the librarian.

It's made to have as many pods coming in turn 1 with as many dangerous units as possible, the dreadnoughts. Following up Vanguard add a little kick where needed (there's 4 locator beacons to help them) as well as the assault marines.

I think you might find this list a bit better with a bit of working. You could expand it to have more Dreads but it'll suffer from having minimal scoring Troops. I think Libby Dreads really shine in this type of army thanks to Blood Lance and you’ve still got a lot of S10 from the Dreads backed up by DC Dreads for the Talons. You could drop the Priest and 2 ASM squads to 3 smaller ASM squads and grab another MM Dread and you’d still have some points to play with (i.e. add some HFlamers to Dreads and magna grapples). The HG also add melta concentration + FNP/FC bubble which really isn’t that important but will improve your ASM survivability. You only have 15 scoring ASM but these should be coming in later anyway.

I think BA do Dread Drop well. If you wanted the more Troops like in yours I’d drop the VV and try and squeeze in some HG squads in a Pod (maybe drop some Loc beacons). I also think with this many Pods Deathwind’s are a good investment. Other than the VV I think this is a solid list but would consider more Blood lances just to break up your opponent’s castling. As I said with original list, I think BA do this better than Vanilla thanks to Dreadnought types. Whilst they suffer in terms of midfield ability (no mass of Tacticals) they are much more potent in combat but do rely a bit on psychic powers I think.

Thoughts everyone else? More ASM or less ASM the better list? Or somewhere in between?

Dreadies and FNP ASM is the way forward. VV add some flash and mobility.

This is a surprising amount of gear for BA at 2000. Nice job!

A second VV squad would be nice though! You've got plenty of melta to open transports to give them a chance of an assault, if that doesn't work... a thunder hammer, fist and 3 MBs always come in handy!

Maybe I should have mentioned that my goal with this list was to spam so many pods as possible first turn. The vanguard are there to keep the pressure on as fast as possible and with the locator beacons they're accurate :D

Sadly, putting in priests doesn't help. In order to do so there's less pods with dreads coming in first turn, less infanty (I'd likely take out a squad of ASM) meaning the priests have less of an overall effect.

Libby dreads are a great idea but I think I'd rather have the vanguard instead of not. They can very easily come in 2nd turn where you need them and reinforce or kick teeth in as needed. They certainly keep your opponents thinking at the very least.

BTW, nice list you linked there Kirby. I can see that scaring the hell out of a many people :D

Those changes were to my list btw :P, other than the VV I wouldn't change anything in yours ^^. One thing I don't like about this list compared to other books is Vanilla SM can essentially do this better. Whilst they don't have the potential combat prowess of BLood Talons nor Blood Lance, they do have more Troops and bolters. I think the other BA Drop Dread list works because it really is different from what the Marines run and is much more "if you don't kill all of these dreads...well you're dead :)".

Give it a whirl and tell us what you think. Both have 11 Pods if you make the suggested changes to the linked list.
