Email in: Eldar list revised

"Hey Kirby, hope you did well on your exams! Now that you have free time to do stuff like watch Germany (my team) lose to some random South American country (who will win) I was wondering if you could spare a second to look over my revised list.  I sent it in to Stelek like a week and half ago (or so) just to change things up/I know you read there too lol.  Anyway, no need to make a big stink about this by posting it on the blog (unless you really want to of course) but what do you think of this:

HQ: 175 pts
Farseer with Runes of Warding, Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones, Guide, Doom, Fortune

Elites: 570 pts
5 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent with TL Shuriken Cannons, Shuriken Cannon

5 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent with TL Shuriken Cannons, Shuriken Cannon

5 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent with TL Shuriken Cannons, Shuriken Cannon

Troops: 470 pts
5 Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent with TL Bright Lances, Shuriken Cannon

5 Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent with TL Bright Lances, Shuriken Cannon

5 Dire Avengers

Fast Attack: 360 pts
2 Vypers with Shuriken Cannon, Shuriken Cannon
2 Vypers with Shuriken Cannon, Shuriken Cannon
2 Vypers with Shuriken Cannon, Shuriken Cannon

Heavy Support: 425 pts
Fire Prism with Shuriken Cannon
Fire Prism with Shuriken Cannon
Falcon with Pulse Gun, Scatter Laser,Holo-Field, Shuriken Cannon
2000 pts

It has a good deal more AV's to deal with (and str 6 shots) at a lower count of scoring troops, psychic ability (no double Guide or Fortune..) and less dedicated anti-tank shots.  I still think its a pretty good contender though, either on level or better than the other list I sent you.

Again, thanks for the comments, and go go Deutschland 2010!"

I’ll post it because I can ^^. It’s a spot on list and you’ve identified the changes from your old list and what it essentially means. Only thing that irks me is the three powers on the Seer. Whilst it gives you some flexibility in being able to guide against pure mech lists, I think dropping it and maintaining Doom might open up some options elsewhere (namely Scatter Lasers on the Vypers). This doesn’t change the list a lot but more S6 is never a bad thing. Not being to upgrade all of them though I might just stick with what you’ve got unless you can find a use for another 20-25pts somewhere else.

All in all, good job. Always enjoyable to see good lists from people e-mailed in consistently! We await pictures and battle-reports! Go Australia and Ghana (if they both win, Australia gets through lol).

...But but but, if I drop Guide my Falcon is not so cool lol. Also I figured Guiding Fire Prisms would be a boss move.

I guess my question is how could deployment work? I remember seeing in one of your battle reports you having two Fire Prisms, one on each extreme corner, moving up and down the table to get side shots I assume? You also had everything else basically clumped up behind cover, which seemed like the sensible thing to do.

The way I see it, I can position one Fire Prism on each corner as you did (if you could elaborate more on that that would be awesome) with a Falcon flanked by the two DA Serpents with all of them given a cover saves by the Vyper squads (until sent in for blocking duty I suppose). The Fire Dragon Serpents still probably shoot forward either behind cover or two in front with one behind, one Fortuned, to give maximum protection.

I guess what I'm really asking is could you guys give me some general advice as if you were playing the army yourself? With me being as new as I am I figure that even though I wrote the list myself, it is still so much like the "good" Eldar lists out there that you guys would be able to give me pointers on how to play it.

Doom is often far more useful than Guide :p but I understand lol. Again, not going to be able to do much with those points anyway.

I'll write a post up about cornering tanks. In regards to the deployment, your BL DAVU Serpents should be the farthest back as they have the longest weapons whilst I attempt to place the Falcon as close as possible to an objective which he gain cover for. Dragon Serpents/Vypers deployed more aggressively around the Falcon/in front of the BL serpents for blocking and more aggressive action if needed.

Hmmm.

I am now considering taking off Fortune, Runes of Witnessing, and Spirit Stones off of the Farseer to upgrade all the Vypers to Scatter Lasers.

How often/how useful is Guide+Doom every turn when you are sitting on an objective all game?

I'd keep Runes of Witnessing just for when you are playing against other Eldar players and then maybe drop Guide instead. Whilst Doom may not see as much use early game, it's the better power as a game drags on because your whole army benefits from it.

I think I've got the list to where I really like it. I took Fortune off the Farseer and gave the Falcon a BL and Spirit Stones, giving me that littlest of extra oomph in the anti-heavy armor category. I might have a chance to play this in a tournament in August, hopefully it will get done in time.

Couldn't you just cut 35 points and field 'drad?

At 2k points I'd really want another DAVU like the ones that are already there. It honestly seems like you'd get more milleage from an extra davu and 'drad over one of those squads anyways.

It might even get you enough points to upgrade those FD's with a HF exarch, even. I'm not sure because it's been so long since I looked at the vyper entry that I'm not *entirely* sure on the exact points costing you'd save. I like the things for screening, but three units of one would work for that, and then you aren't squadroning av10 units..
