I am trying to figure out whether I should beef up my VV at the cost of 1 priest and a llibrarian. It seems like a good trade as my VV (running them as noted in Option 1) have been a bit inconsistent.
This is from Jason. I think the second one is better as the VV are being used more appropriately as a anti-super unit unit. I think you can fit in the 2nd libby though if you drop the PF/LC on the VV and Infernous Pistols on the ASM squads but one Libby is fine as well with what you have. The PF/LC on the VV aren't really needed as they are more of a damage soaker rather than dealer but if you don't want want to drop the Pistols on the ASM fine as is. If you're looking for points to cut and spend elsewhere though, look there first. The SS are what are important on the VV. 2 Priests + an Honor Guard unit should be enough to cover your FNP/FC bubbles though the deep strike can be a pain.

Thanks Kirby. My other question is do you think a 4 melta honor guard is overkill?
Overkill's the best kind of kill. Fitting in a PF would be nice there though.
4 Meltas is fine, it really helps against heavy AV and for 10pts a pop, why not really?
How much of a benefit is wound allocation on single wound models? In the second list I was going for all unique models while having a SS on each. I agree that the LC is not necessary but I worry about not having a fist in the unit to deal with nasties
It helps but it isn't huge like on multiple wound models.
There's been a few times where I've only killed one model out of a two model group, even though I stuck 4 savable wounds and 3 unsavable on the unit.
Hey Kirby, love the blog.
What do you think of the wargear loadout on the VV? I like having plenty of storm shields now but I'm not so sure on power weapons. Maybe a fist but you want the enemy tied up for 2 rounds of CC if possible, right?
I was curious enough to ask Stelek the same question as I tried to tweak a 2k list as well.
It depends what type of role your VV are playing. In a pure Jumper army they are much better as the sort of anvil where they take damage rather than deal it. This is specifically true of super units, BA Jumpers don't really have any uber units of their own so VV can tie them up for mass assaults. For this reason mass SS is best with minimal weapon loadouts until you hit higher points (i.e. 2500) where you can afford decking them out.
