Island of Blood: Pre-orders

Well I'm sure you're all tired of hearing about this by now but shush! Here are some more pics of the boxed set (including 2 armies) from the Games Workshop site and the lovely information that these babies are up for pre-order! Yay. Now I need to discuss with Vinsanity if we really want to grab 2 boxes and split the sets. Anyway, the sets look amazing painted up and multiplied times 2 though the High Elves do look incredibly small...and with the rumors floating about that the HE battalion boxes may change and no longer include Silver Helms...I might be getting some of those soon, too.

Quick question for everyone though, do you know if everything in the Battalion box for HE is plastic? I will assume so as I haven't come across a boxed set like that from GW with metals but all I keep hearing about on Warseer is complaints of metal horses. Mind you my source for this is Warseer... So  here are the pictures! I'd be curious to know how many people are starting 8th edition because of this boxed set! It really is a wonderful starter kit and this combined with the fact the new rule set seems a lot more balanced and it's gotten me into the game. Not as seriously as 40k but here I am burning more moneys!

Enjoy the pics!

Those minis are win. I'm buying 2 sets just for myself.

Don't buy the HE battalion. It's full of fugly ape-like elves. Get 4 of these boxes with a Skaven-collecting mate, convert your Seaguard into Spear-elves (shave off the bows basically) and convert the Reivers into Silver Helms with arm swaps and sell the 3 surplus Griffons on ebay. You won't have to suffer any work from the oven-glove covered paws of Gary Morley and after adding a Dragon, a couple of bolt throwers and chariots, you'll have a great army. Plenty of Swordmasters for the win - with ASF, they're brutal in 8th.

And yes it is all plastic. Bit of a shame that it's ugly plastic, but this new box goes a long way to remedying that.

I have never heard of anything in a battalion or battle-force box being metal. Those elf ponies the silverhelms ride have been around since 2001 or so. Some people are just 'tards.

That frickin' griffon is some hot shite, though. I'd buy that for a dollar, but I have lizards to paint.

^^ Great looking box kirbs, we will defo get 2 boxes and so we have 2 rulebooks each ftw. Those Skaven look amazing, the High Elves look great too since the hands aren't Gary Morley retard hands :D

But its $165 oz and we could be better off getting it from UK or US unless shipping will be extreme...

Its all plastic baby, as are all the battalions so you won't have any metal to plastic gluing difficulties. I've never heard of Horsies being metal, usually its the riders who are...

But yea, we defo getting 2 of these badboys ^^

It's 100% plastic, and everything you get is good, or at least useful - except maybe the prince on the griffon-thingy.
At least they're wanted by both human factions, and dark elves need them to make manticores.

I can feel the urge to buy stuff overtake me again...and I play dark elves.

Yeah, don't buy the battleforces for dark- or high elf factions.
Bad value, and have a lot of huge-handed elves in them.

Just get more of these, and convert the riders to silverhelms if you really, really want to.
Reavers are good, too, but play a different role.

Yeah it's a great set, until you look at the price. Your right Vince, US is slightly better, I'll be getting a few of them shipped over to Aus, if you guys want you could get a few there and tag along with my package.

@Chumb; whore. Send me your HE stuff.

@Ian; ya I know the core for HE is meh but I need Arhcers =p and the battalions have the RBTs and Silver Helms as well...but will try and convert the Reavers anyway. Not a fan of expensive critters like Dragons (want Hydras!) but RBTs/cavalry/chariots = you bet. Foot HE will be a different list IMO.

@Alex; mmm lizzies.

@Vinsanity; aye I'm thinking Wayland? 165 is steep considering AoBR was 90 (then 100) though IoB is miles better I must say.

@VT2; I know IoB is plastic.

@Raptors8th; I'm thinking Wayland but they pop up after pre-sale obviously. Where in Australia do you live?

Unknown said...

Well just checked out Total Wargamer and it's $410 AUD for 4 IoB sets + shipping and they do have pre-sales up. Wayland & Maelstorm are generally cheaper unless you get army deals from Total Wargamer so might wait to see if they put up pre-sales but that's essentially 60% Aussie pricing.

4 IoB is ~$309 AUD coming from the US, +tax and shipping so figure around Aus$360. I'm near Adelaide so I'd have to ship it to Sydney if your interested, unless you're going to be in SA anytime soon.

Vinsanity said...

We could go 2 IoB boxes each, thatd be aight. You will get like 4 griffons tho :P I guess I could get one off you for my empire but the rest of what you don't need you could sell on Ebay.

But Id be down for 4 IoB boxes, I reckon its a great deal for Skaven overall...

Wayland seems the best option imo, perhaps you should inquire about whether they will have deal on it or something...

I'd love a box as well, not sure whether I'd keep the skaven or high elves but seeing as I have a shit load of Silver Helms and a mounted Mage already keeping the High Elves and trading the Skaven away would work if someone was up for that. I'm in Sydney with Kirb's and Vince, so need someone willing to get a 6th box and wanting to play Skaven (2 griffins better then 1, besides can convert the second griffin and use it elsewhere too! :D).

Cheers all.

P.S. Vinsanity, I saw you played Mordheim in your write up, up for some games/mini campaign randomly when we all get some time? I so miss my Mordheim games. :( Started back on the Possessed article for YTTH lol, so tempted to pos it here though first! :p

Vinsanity said...

Taak - Yeah I may be down for buying some Skaven off you, ill see how i can manage funds, etc.

Regarding Mordheim, yeah for sure, great game! The best campaign games are defo Necro and Mordheim, totally blows 40K and fantasy campaigns out of the water :D I miss playing Necromunda atm, its classic ;) So you guys will play a big one on Vassal sometime?

Yeah I started with possessed too but have got Undead, Beastmen and Dwarvies as well hehe!

Chumbalaya said...

We played Necro on Vassal for a while, would Mordheim be possible?
