Cornering: Flanking with Warhammer 40,000 tanks

I was asked quite a while ago what was meant by cornering by Kai so here's a quick post on it atm before I head to work. I will update it when I come back (having slept in and not having enough time) but am going to pull a Stelek on the Pink Army and see what reasons are offered for what I quickly describe here.

Cornering is basically having multiple long ranged tanks (i.e. Preds/Fire Prisms/Russes/Hammerheads/Hydras/Raiders/Ravagers/etc) who against the appropriate opponent can split their deployment and deploy in opposite corners of their deployment zone. As the game continues and their opponents advance into midfield, one or both are more likely to get side shots because of their extreme angles. Armies which have fast tanks (Tau, Eldar, DE, BA) are more able to get this as their tanks are more mobile.

So, let's hear your thoughts on this and I'll write a somewhat lengthy article when I get home. Don't worry, this won't be the norm just been busy painting and working lately to actually put downa full post in the morning! Have at ye.

Since most armies which I face are speedy nowadays comparatively, I generally do have to place my Preds right on the corners.

Against less mobile armies, I am not afraid of using them to make pseudo-bunkers around my deployment zone.

About it.

I don't know how much you can expand on this Kirbs. Maybe some pretty pictures... deploy in the Corners for when you have to shoot and can't Reserve and jump on them instead, like when you are Tau.

Deploy in a semicircle to minimise frontage, and maximise the cover provided by your now halved Bubblewrap. Shoot until one of you is dead.

Pretty simple.

how does deploying in a semicircle minimise frontage - having trouble visualising this in my head.

@TKE; pics were the plan =D!

@Heinz; imagine a block of pikeman in a hedgehog formation, harder to get side shots.

Another advantage of cornering is that your opponent has to decide how he will deal with your split fire power.

Does he split his forces? Or does ignore one corner and focuses on the other? Or does he shoot at the AV 13 Predators (or alternative) till the guns are silenced?

Sandwyrm does something similar to Cornering in his recent Man Cave battle report using his Vendetta's...

Simple Heinz. What has more surface area, a circle, or a square, given equal area?
