Thunderbubble: SM mech w/TH/SS bubble-wrap

Gx1080 is lazy. This is for him and anyone else who desires the list on paper. Covered in this pretty gem of an article here is the resultant 2k list of an SM mech list running TH/SS Terminators as a defensive screen. Aka: THUNDERBUBBLE. Thunderbubble courtesy of Pikachu & Squirtle (aka AbusePuppy). The linked article is a How To and describes how the TH/SS portion of the list operates. If further explaining needs to be done about the shooty aspect...well ask I guess. In terms of absolute firepower it can compare favorably with armies like RBack spam with more medium strength weaponry but has less mech saturation, fire saturation and fire durability (shaking the Pred stops 3 guns) but has a rock hard assault unit which scares everything except the Emprah! No, it scares him, too. It's much cheaper money wise than RBack spam and is pretty easy to cobble together from an existing SM Mech list (simply magnetise your Rhinos and add in Terminators) and can scale well to 2500 points (add another Typhoon + 2x LasPlas squads and as many HKs as you can fit in).

Thunderbubble 2000pts:

HQ -
Librarian w/Null Zone & Gate of Infinity

Elites -
10x TH/SS Terminators
Dreadnought w/2x TL-autocannons
Dreadnought w/2x TL-autocannons

Troops -
5x Tactical Marines w/combi-melta & Razorback w/Lascannon and twin-linked plasma gun
5x Tactical Marines w/combi-melta & Razorback w/Lascannon and twin-linked plasma gun
5x Tactical Marines w/combi-melta & Razorback w/Lascannon and twin-linked plasma gun
5x Tactical Marines w/combi-melta & Razorback w/Lascannon and twin-linked plasma gun

Fast Attack -
Land Speeder Typhoon
Land Speeder Typhoon

Heavy Support -
Predator w/Lascannon Sponsons
Predator w/Lascannon Sponsons
Predator w/Lascannon Sponsons

Totals: 1990 points
11 tanks
31 infantry

Another stupidly named army is born.

Nice mate. I think I would still stick with the dakka predators and try to fit in some MM speeders. Personally I just love rolling buckets of dice when the three of them light something up. :)

What do you think of dropping the Combi Melta's and switching to 3 MM/HF Speeders? A bit less ranged firepower, but it gets better mobile melta units. In particular, i think it helps a lot vs dual raider, that matchup will largely come down to who gets a good round with null zone first, and the speeders let you eliminate their ability to control the assault engagement by downing their raiders earlier.

@Agama; don't really need help on the anti-infantry front with all that firepower whilst the extra 6 LCs do help, even if they can only hit 3 seperate targets.

@chris; very viable and you highlighted why. I designed this list with pure shooting in mind but 3x MM/HF works just as well and gives you more mobility and midfield presence.

Yay! Reference to original pokemon!

You seemed to say it has a lot less than rback spam, what stops people from just fielding rback spam instead (apart from FREAKIN' TERMINATORZ syndrome)

No mention of the fact that I effectively came up with this idea and wrote a post about it in April?

Man, I was good at this 40k analysis thing before I started working 80+ hours per week, lol

Vaguely surprised you'd take a combi-melta over a combi-flamer, just from the standpoint that if I'm going to take a single combi-shot, I'd rather make it work.

About the only thing I'd worry about is heavy army, from the standpoint that unless it's moving, you've got a great heap of light/medium armor-killing power in the lascannons and autocannons, but not so much the heavy stuff. I guess in that context I could see the combi-meltas, but I'd probably roll over to MM/HF speeders m'self. Not sure what I'd do with the extra 60 points, though. Probably sink it into the Librarian for Terminator Armor and a storm shield, a combi-melta for the last squad, and then move out from there. Probably throw some HK missiles out for the LOLs.

I remember one of Stelek's 1500 point Space Marine armies had TH/SS Assault Terminators that could be used for bubble wrapping.

@ Kirby - are you Timmy or Jimmy? FF wasn't very clear which of us was who lolz

@ Brother Loring - sorry for saying lolz... I hope the STI test is fun <3

Umm....I made the list up from the previous article when I could be arsed to read the text wall.

Also, my calculations say that you can add a fourth combi-melta and still have 10 pts. over.

@Wolf's Lunch; I compare it to RBack spam because they are both shooting armies. I'd lean towards RBack spam being a bit better but not hugely so. RBack spam is also very heavy on the pocket.

@GWvsJohn; you chose to be an MD not me :P

@Raptor; general lack of melta is why backed up by pretty good anti-infantry though combi-flamers work, too. Again, MM/HFs are fine choices too which also helps with clogging up midfield and provides more saturation, bigger targets T1.

@MoD; TimJim?

@Gx1080; I fail at math...every time I seem to work out my reasoning for these lists in a post my points are off :P. Without the combis then you've got 50 pts to spare. HKs can be put on or combis, etc.

What would you drop for 1500 points?

I found that I could do... libby, 10x termies, 2 rifledreads, 2 las sponson preds, then 3 tactical squads in razors with las/plas, but can only afford 1 combi melta and meltabombs for 1 squad. The other option would be to drop 15 points off the dreads which would be mean taking MM/AC on both, and then having 5 points left over for melta bombs or whatever. Of course I could also do a combination of these different options. I always seem to get caught up on stuff like this when making lists.. sigh...
