My Bloodwing

Well since I've got Nipple Hammer & Jumper armies in the work, why not make a Bloodwing list which gives a bit of flavor to the Jumper army. As noted in the My Jumper entry I think I'll be playing Nipple & Blood Hammer more regularly but the models will be there for these two lists as well and accurate VV on the drop is just...well fun =D. Not really sure about this list yet as the core leaves me with just over 100 points to play with and I've dropped that into bits and bobs here and there so will be interesting to see your opinions. I've started painting one squad of Sanguinary Guard for a competition and have ordered in some more bits including Jump Packs and single-handed weapons so all 8 current Marine lists are coming together...slowly. Here's the list:

Bloodwing:

HQ -
Dante
Libby w/Jump Pack, Blood Lance, Shield of Sanguine, melta-bombs
Honor Guard w/Jump Packs, 4x meltagun, 3x SS

Elites -
Sanguinary Priest w/Lightning Claw, hand-flamer
Sanguinary Priest w/Lightning Claw, hand-flamer

Troops -
5x Sanguinary Guard w/2x infernous pistol, PFist
5x Sanguinary Guard w/2x infernous pistol, PFist
5x Sanguinary Guard w/2x infernous pistol, PFist

Fast Attack -
5x Vanguard Veterans w/Lightning Claws, 4x SS
5x Vanguard Veterans w/Lightning Claws, 4x SS

Totals: 2000 points
34 Jumpers

Is there a way to free up 30 points to take a Chapter Banner? Seems like it could be really useful.

well, he's already got 5 points since a librarian cannot take meltabombs.

On a side note, I'm not a fan of VV without a way to escape combat with walkers. Especially if they have 80 points worth of stormshields.

They have to jump in close and a lot of lists have walkers who can then assault them and tie them up for ever.

Its just not possible to drop out of their assault range all the time.

Drop a Stormshield on each VV squad, upgrade to Powerfist. This gets you 20 points total.

Handflamers on the Sangpriests seem nice but having to keep them in the rear of the unit so you can make sure they won't be swamped in combat will prevent them from using then effectively often.

This could be another 20 points, together with the 20 points recovered from the VV and 5 points from the Librarian's illegal meltabomb means you have 45 points left to spend.

Plenty for a banner and a upgrade from Meltagun to Powerfist in the Honour Guard. You really expect people to not assault these guys when they blow something up?

When you have few models/units, everybody has to be able to handle everything..

What grav said.

I like adding in a RAS myself. Cheap bodies and real meltas FTW.

Woops re-meltabombs lol. That's what you get for doing a list whilst at work. The VV also don't have lightning claws, just the Sarge.

PFists on the VV are pretty easy to get, just drop the Hand-flamers and bob's your uncle, 2 PFists. If I wanted a Banner prob drop the LCs on the Priests and just put that 5 points from the Melta-bombs elsewhere.

RAS can be gotten by dropping the extra points but then PFists would be harder to get on the VV and I'd rather keep them with more SS... so might stick without the RAS for the moment.

My only worry would be durability. The VV's can tie some things up, and hopefully you can pop walkers or gunplatforms away on the drop... BUT so few bodies for 2000pts.

I know daemons work on a concept wherea narrow frontage can render a lot of the enemy firepower wasted, I guess you would need to land very strategically to reduce incoming fire. (i know there is a lot of 2+ and FNP, but each casualty would hurt a lot, and you can't run out of formation when you land and shoot).

All said, I would like to play it a bunch of times before I poo poo'd it, I have always wanted to do a jumper style army, and these guys are 'leet!

Trying to get this to fit at 1850:

Dante @ 225
Lib w/ Shield, Lance, Jump Pack @ 125

HG w/ Jump Packs, 4 Melta, 2 SS @ 245
HG w/ Jump Packs, 4 Melta, 1 SS @ 225

SG w/ 1 PF, 2 Infernus Pistols, Chapter Banner @ 260
SG w/ 1 PF, 2 Infernus Pistols @ 230
SG w/ 1 PF, 2 Infernus Pistols @ 230

SP w/ Jump Pack @ 75

VV w/ Jump Packs, 3 SS, PF Sarge @ 235

I had to combine the second VVets with the Priest in order to prune it down - I don't think this list would be too easy to use with only 2 bubbles. Am I looking in the wrong direction?

@Borkai; aye all Jumper armies really need to maintain proximity to each other even the Hammer lists w/ML support (the Jumper aspect at least). 2+/FNP makes the SG virtually invulnerable to small-arms fire and they really only suffer against S8+ & AP2 armies (i.e. Guard, Tau & LasPlas...).

@SlowPoke; I'd drop an HG squad for another VV though you're only operating then with 2 bubbles. Prob drop the SS on the HG as well and you might be able to irk out the points though realistically dropping both the HG for another VV + Priest and a small ASM squad might be your best bet.
