Hi BroLo, Hi
I have put this List together to try and maximise the number of terminators and also minimise the total number of models.... I was wondering does it still have competitive potential.
Emp Champ - AAC 140
Castellan - TA, SB, PW, SS, tankhunters 113
SB TCS - 4xTerms, SS, 2x CML, tankhunters 237
Castellan - TA, SB, PW, SS, tankhunters 113
SB TCS - 4xTerms, SS, 2x CML, tankhunters 237
SB TS - 5xTerms 2x CML, tankhunters 265
SB TS - 5xTerms 2x CML, tankhunters 265
SB TS - 5xTerms 3x TH/SS, 2xLC furious charge 215
Crusaders - 5xInitiates, Lascannon, Plasmagun 101
Crusaders - 5xInitiates, Lascannon, Plasmagun 101
Crusaders - 5xInitiates, Lascannon, Plasmagun 101
Crusaders - 5xInitiates, Lascannon, Plasmagun 101
This drops in at 1989..
I could change 2 Lascannons to MM/Missiles and drop a plasmagun to change the CC terms into 5xTerms with 2xCML without tankhunter to fit in with the rest but i *think* the CC termies add some even more potent counter-attack this is where i would put the EC.
Ideally i want to avoid any Mech if possible...
Another min/max list i was looking at is based around Dante / Sanguinary Guard ...
Dante 225
Librarian - Shield / Bloodlance, Jumppack 125
Honorguard - Jumppacks, Bloodchamp, powerfist, meltagun, 2xflamer 240
Sanguinary Guard - Powerfist, 2x Infernus pistol 230
Sanguinary Guard - Powerfist, 2x Infernus pistol 230
Sanguinary Gaurd - Powerfist, 2x Infernus pistol 230
Sanguinary Gaurd - Powerfist, 2x Plasma pistol 230
Sanguinary Gaurd - Powerfist, 2x Plasma pistol 230
Sanguinary Priest - Jumppack 75
Sanguinary Priest - Jumppack 75
Sanguinary Priest - Jumppack 75
This leaves a few points left over (35 i think?).... I have chosen a few plasma pistols for that 12" range to be able to chase down and threaten transports that I potentially scatter too far from or ones that run away, it offers a *relatively* decent 24" threat range (emphasis on the relatively).
I would like to know which is more competitive the Sangguard or BT list and/or variations of said lists that you could devise? I would love to know if you can make Sangguard spam competitive.
Regards, Dan.
Hey Dan, sorry about the slow reply... these replies are coming out in the order I receive them and as quick as I can get them out. New job, new boss et al.
Anyways, you face a similar dilemma as myself... BT or BA.
The BT list. It's strongish, but don't think it's optimal really. It's sort of a more rangey variant of Stelek's BT AssCan Spam. It has some really nice firepower, but when you're up against a strong shooty list, I think things could go down-hill quickly. Tau make short work of these lists if played properly. Fortunately, not many people do, but I can't say the same about SW LasPlas/ML spam.
I would probably go with the suggestion of changing the CC termies to more shooty ones. With the CC ones you get left with a dilemma. You should really advance because the CC termies are otherwise wasted. With a pure shooty termie list you have the choice. 25 termies + 3 characters are more than comfortable with a little ruff'n'tumble, but are also to sit back, protect the crusaders and tear lists apart from range.
The only other thing I would suggest is possibly changing out 2 of the plasma guns for flamers, but that's a minor thing really and the plasma shots will come in handy I'm sure.
The BA list is a little more difficult really. Here are 2 similar lists that perhaps we should look at for starters (one and two). I personally prefer Kirby's list, but would personally come in somewhere between the two.
Dante + SG lists are very difficult to balance between troop numbers and support. Without ranged weapons or Heroic intervention, SG heavy lists can collapse pretty quickly. Running SG as CC support for regular drop BA can combat this in sorts.
If it were possible, I'd like a list that has Dante, Libby, 2 x HG, 2 x VV, 4 x SG and enough FnP/FC bubbles to go around. Is this possible... no. We can however make a slight variant of it with 10 regular ASM instead of 2 of the SG, but that really isn't SG spam.
That list would come out at...
Dante - 225
Librarian - Lance/Shield - JP - 125
Honour Guard - JPs, Meltagun x 3 - 195
Honour Guard - JPs, Meltagun x 3 - 195
Sanguinary Priest - JP, Combi-Melta - 85
Sanguinary Guard - IP x 2, PF - 230
Sanguinary Guard - PF - 230
Assault Marines (10) - Meltagun x 2, MB - 215
Vanguard Veterans - JPs, SS x 3, TH, LC, MB - 260
Vanguard Veterans - JPs, SS x 3, TH, LC, MB - 260
2000
It's not SG spam, but I think it's a more balanced list. Four units should be dropping to triple tap melta weapons and the VVs should help out with some heroic intervention. The Blood Lance Libby should help with some anti-castling and adds an extra shot from a unit that would otherwise be useless on the drop. With very few units dropping, each one that doesn't arrives hurts you more. More units in the list will help combat this pain. For a more spammy SG list, I would possibly consider adapting a list that would aim to start on the table for most games and concentrate on SG numbers. HG in such a list could play a role if dropping in by drop pods. In a list where they just offer support and you want a more SG pure list, consider investing heavily in them to drop, melta and anvil - i.e. 3 x Melta, 4 x SS. This would then mean they could fill part of the role of the VVs. They can't HI, but can hold up other units.
If I were to chose one of the 2, it would be 100% dependant on the time I have for playtesting. If you can play a good number of games before a a tournie (i.e. at least 10), then I would say go with the BA. Otherwise, I think the BTs would be a lot more forgiving.
