Grey Knights WIP

So I have a one-day tournament I'm heading to this weekend and I'll be bringing an Acolyte based Grey Knight list which I've been trying to playtest the past several weeks. Unfortunately I've gotten two games in, both on Vassal so we'll see how it unfolds. As usual though, I'm not finishing painting *facepalm* so along with the joys of apartment hunting these past weeks, I've been working on polishing off all my Space Marine vehicles (three Dreads and seven Razorbacks in this case) with the Purifiers needing detailing and the GKT simply not being painted... I'll likely borrow someone's painted GKT for this tournament but hopefully the army will all be done by the end of the year.

Don't worry, I too will believe it when I see it. Anyway, here's a WIP picture of my painting desk atm. I'm working on putting all the scratch-build Razorback turrets together which are all magnetised with TL-Flamer, Assault Cannon and Heavy Bolter options and a couple LasPlas - everything one needs! The turrets are quite boxy but they do their function I feel, come off easily to make a Rhino and don't look like complete ass!

The list is as follows for those interested:

Coteaz
Mallus Inquisitor w/Terminator Armor, Psycannon, 3x Servo Skulls
5x Purifiers w/2x Psycannons, Daemon Hammer, Razorback w/TL-Assault Cannons, Psybolt Ammo, Searchlight
5x Purifiers w/2x Psycannons, Daemon Hammer, Razorback w/TL-Assault Cannons, Psybolt Ammo, Searchlight
5x Terminators w/Psycannon
6x Warrior Acolytes w/bolters, Razorback w/TL-Assault Cannons, Psybolt Ammo
6x Warrior Acolytes w/bolters, Razorback w/TL-Assault Cannons, Psybolt Ammo
6x Warrior Acolytes w/bolters Razorback w/TL-Assault Cannons, Psybolt Ammo
3x Warrior Acolytes, Razorback w/TL-Heavy Bolters, Psybolt Ammo
3x Warrior Acolytes, Razorback w/TL-Heavy Bolters, Psybolt Ammo
Dreadnought w/2x twin-linked autocannons, Psybolt Ammo
Dreadnought w/2x twin-linked autocannons, Psybolt Ammo
Dreadnought w/2x twin-linked autocannons, Psybolt Ammo

Totals: 1750
41 infantry, 10 vehicles

The resulting army is all about shooting. Shoot, shoot and shoot some more with the Acolytes basically making their rides scoring though if necessary they can hop out and add 36 bolter shots to the fray. Otherwise a lot of medium to high strength firepower is coming out of the army and that's basically how it operates. The GKT seem an odd inclusion but with Coteaz + Inquisitor make a good counter-attack unit and scoring (the last being their reason for inclusion over Paladins). The issue with the list is if opponents get in amongst my lines and are able to essentially bypass or overwhelm the GKT + Purifiers and start hacking my army to pieces. Unlike most Marine lists, Aco-based lists can fall apart quickly like anything else based on T3/5+ and their recovery ability is less than that of a normal Marine list. That being said, lots of mobile firepower and lots of metal bawkses give the army offensive output and durability in return.

Anywho, we shall see how it unfolds and how much painting I can get done before the weekend!

How do you stop a landraider before it drops of a squad of TH/SS terminators in your army.
A couple of autocannons really arnt going to make that happen.

I count five twin linked assault cannons with psybolt ammo on razorbacks. If a land raider (or any other valuable target) comes within 24" it won't last particularly long. A lot of psycannons acting as deterrents too.
Problem is that by then the LR is to close and will have done its job of delivering the cargo.
Same with Leman Russ tanks sitting at the back of the bord shelling your army. are you going to dive your razerback up into the face of an IG and hope he lasts a turn so he can do something on the one after?
No, you just focus on the rest of the army first. You can't stop an entire army from shooting anyway, so in this case you just ignore the Russes for the first part of the game. This list can take a bit of pounding from some Russes just fine.

Regarding a Land Raider: When the other player has the first turn, you ain't gonna prevent a Land Raider from moving up 12" either...
The LR is more of a "charge whatever you want, I will kill your TH/SS next turn." The only target of worth in regards for the TH/SS to charge is the GKT and if they do that, they have sanctuary and double hammerhand halberds to deal with (not to mention the hammers from ICs). Anything else the TH/SS charge I don't really care as they will kill it and be left in the open. The rest of the game becomes a process of stripping away support like Zjoekov points out and once the Termies are exposed, shoot em. Russes are more of an issue but not something of great concern. For example I faced six Russes at Event Horizon with a list similar to this in terms of output against AV14 (if not a bit worse) - most of the time I ignored them or if they were in a squad, would occasionally shoot at them. Rather I'd focus on dropping all the Chimeras, Vendettas, etc. and force the Russes to carry my opponent's army which they couldn't.
Well.... they could also multicharge several vehicles you know ;) So it's not like a unit of TH/SS Termies cannot harm you ^^
If they are charging more than 2 and the vehicle hasn't moved at least 6", I deserve to lose :P.
Can't do the math off the top of my head, but the amount of rending assault cannon shots should probably bring it down. Of course, the rest of the opponent's army gets a 'gettin' shot-free' turn.
Drive a Razorback in front of the Land Raider... not as good as a Land Speeder or other fast skimmers. But it is an option.
Statistcally a psycannon is more able to actually take down a landraider than a Lascannon. With 7 of them (+4), it might not be that much of a problem.

While I'm not worried about not being able to down a Land Raider with this list, I think pointing out that Psycannons have better odds than Lasscannons in kind of a mood point: Not many people try to kill Land Raiders with Lasscannons, cause it's not efficient.
The real question is: where the heck did you find so many assault cannons for less than a kidney?!

Ravenwing battle boxes. Each comes with 6-8 I think and I have four of them.
