Making the Witch Coven Work (part 2)

Alright 3++, let's finish our list building exercise on the Witch Coven of Garlghast today with part 2!  These ladies offer a lot of flexibility on the tabletop and are very different from any other warcaster in the entire game.  Consequently, they are often ignored as a choice because they are a bit intimidating when you're looking at building a list.  Added into that, Cryx is normally a pretty straight-forward faction, relying mostly upon their numbers and melee abilities that the Coven seem a little lackluster without crazy damage buffs.  In reality, these buffs come in disguise and the Coven has a great feat which can mitigate the fragility of most Cryx models.

Today I will look at a few models for consideration when taking the Witch Coven.  Lastly, I'll share a diagram to hopefully illustrate the power and effectiveness of the Coven on the tabletop.  Obviously, there are many situations you could find yourself in, but the example I will share will hopefully help you understand the true potential of the Coven.

Making the Witch Coven Work (part 1)

Greetings ladies and gentlemen of 3++!  I'm finally back after a long hiatus and today I will be bringing you all the eagerly-anticipated list building article on the Witch Coven of Garlghast.  I wrote this article already over at my blog but I know that there have been some requests here on 3++ for an article on the ladies of the Coven and so I figured I'd share it here.  There ended up being a lot to discuss, so I'll have to share it in two parts, with the second part coming shortly thereafter.  In part two, I'll examine some models worth consideration when building a list with the Coven and a tactical example of how the Coven can achieve victory with all of the tools at their disposal, as well as a list that I think would be fun to try out.

Vindictus...35 points

Dankeblarg
Yes yes, another Menoth caster potential list :P. And I'm yet to reply to the eKreoss feedback, I'll get there! So Vindictus, like eKreoss, is more an infantry caster with the spell True Path - +2" movement and pathfinder for units/models starting activation in control zone. That's pretty awesome at not only increasing threat ranges but ability to jam units and simply get across the board quickly though only infantry & solos are benefitting from this. Have to look to eFeora for Warjack speed boost whom I'm already running. Increased movement means increased options for board control, etc. - never a bad thing.

Next Menoth Caster - eKreoss 35 pts

PP Forums

Following on from Reznik, I'm looking for my next Menoth caster to support the lovely trio of pKreoss, eFeora and pSevvy. The next one I'm going to look at is eKreoss who brings more infantry support than 'Jack support compared to the others I currently have - his feat just rocks with lots of models and his model looks sweet as well :).

We'll start with eKreoss himself. Like most Menoth casters he's not exactly tough though with DEF14/ARM16 and 18 damage boxes he's not as weak as the Sevvys or Harby. He comes with a nice weapon though at P+S14 with reach and magical weapon. Importantly though he can either slam models at full P+S (collateral is still at STR) or can use armor piercing against medium/large units. Excellent for taking out 'Jacks/Beasts or larger based casters.

Thoughts on Reznik

Dankeblarg

So I've been looking through the Menoth casters to see if there are any I'd like to try out next. There were of course several but I'd like to try out Reznik as he's very different from what I would normally run (I like spellcasters and the like over brute force). So a quick look at Reznik!

He's a medium base which isn't great on a warcaster - harder to hide him though Menoth do have some decent medium base options (Bastions looking at you). He's otherwise a decently durable but not great warcaster with DEF/ARM 14/17, 17 health boxes and no defensive spells. Focus of six is a bit limiting but workable with some solos. Otherwise Reznik's spell list and special abilities are geared towards a very offensive playstyle.
