Pre-game Mentality

Moving right along, nothing is changing! Katie and I were talking (look at that name dropping) about the Ladder (which is moving along nicely) and it ended up sparking this article. One of the most important parts of any wargame is being able to look at the table you are playing on, the winning methods and the two (or more) armies opposing each other and from there. From there, you need to distil this knowledge to figure out what you need to do to win and what your opponent needs to do to win. By doing both of these at the same time, you can not only achieve your victory but blunt your opponent from doing so as well which will better enable your own plan to work. Remember as well, they are going to be trying to stop you. To do this you need to be able to think clearly, rationally and use the full might of your cognitive ability but things often get in the way of this.

Warpath: Core Rules: Beta release

Kirby has sort of asked me to review the Beta ruleset for Warpath, the new "Sci-Fi mass miniature wargame" by Mantic. As Kirby said in his last post, the boys over at The Back 40K recently had a few games of Kings of War (Mantic's fantasy wargame) and had a look at the Alpha release for Warpath. All quality posts of course... exactly what we've come to expect from those guys.

Firstly, Warpath is quite clearly competing with Warhammer 40k in a way that no other game currently does. Very similar themes and it's as described, a'mass miniature wargame'. We're talking probably over 100 models in most games. This sets it apart from the likes of WarmaHordes in terms of size.

Warpath Beta

Most of you should have the rules by now but for any who are interested, haven't heard or don't have them you can access the new Beta rules for the Sci-Fi game from Mantic (the company that produces really cheap models but at a lower quality...did I mention really, really cheap?).

Sandwyrm has done a quick review on the rules several weeks back on the back 40k and I think BroLo is looking to take a peek at them for 3++ as well but it would be great to have an actual 'full scale'battle competitor out there for 40k. Not only would we have more alternatives to play but GW might make smart marketing decisions...
