"I am going to a tournament in february and I need help figuring out which list to take. I have two good lists I feel can work, but I havent a clue which to take. The guidelines of the tournament are that its 1863 points after a local cival war battle and that there will be a massive river running through each board. There will be bottlenecks and bridges which will be mission important. Can you help?
List 1
HQ
Imotekh The Stormlord
Bloodswarm Nanoscarabs, Gauntlet of Fire, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Sempiternal Weave, Staff of the Destroyer
Necron Lord
Mindshackle Scarabs, Warscythe
Cryptec
Harbinger of Eternity
Aeonstave, Chronometron
Necron Overlord
Mindshackle Scarabs ,Warscythe
Necron Lord
Mindshackle Scarabs Warscythe
Elites
5x Lychguard
5x Hyperphase Sword and Dispersion Shield
Night Scythe
Troops
Necron Warriors
5x Necron Warrior
5x Gauss Flayer
Night Scythe
Twin-linked Tesla Destructor
Necron Warriors
5x Necron Warrior
5x Gauss Flayer
Night Scythe
Twin-linked Tesla Destructor
Necron Warriors
5x Necron Warrior
5x Gauss Flayer
Night Scythe
Twin-linked Tesla Destructor
Heavy Support
Doom Scythe
Death Ray, Twin-linked Tesla Destructor
Doom Scythe
Death Ray, Twin-linked Tesla Destructor
Doom Scythe
Death Ray, Twin-linked Tesla Destructor
The list pretty much is really deadly, really fast and has the 2 lords overlord with lychguard as a death star. The Problem is, the list is light on troops. Any transports that get destroyed become grot squads who hide or try to claim objectives.
List two
HQ
Storm lord
crytek chronometron (with stormlord)
Nemesor zahndrek
Troop
10 warriors- nightscythe
10 warriors-nightscythe
10 warriors-nightscythe
10 warriors-nightscythe
heavy
doomscythe
doomscythe
doomscythe
This allows for more troops, same nightscythes, but no deathstar or mind shackle scarabs. It does however present the option of mass deepstrike via phased reinforcements. This means I can counter DoA armies (a big worry for me) by deepstriking every unit in my army after the last DoA unit has fallen. meaning I can place myself out of melta range, then fly in and focus fire on certain units. The warriors can even get out and do things in this game if they need to. I have all the models for both these lists. tell me what you think."
Deathstar & Necrons = meh I'm afraid. Opponent shoots down Night Scythe and you're footslogging it. However, I do like the Scythewing concept and think it can be workable. First, you need at least one Solar Pulse. I'm not sure Stormlord is the best pick here but he can help cause extra damage. I'd personally be looking at Nemesor or perhaps some Bargelords (one being Traveller). From there, Immortals in Night Scythes (much more capable than Warriors without support), Lance Crypteks and Doom Scythes. If you have points for Scarabs that would work decently as well (even small squads) to provide further disruption to your opponent.
This means you don't care about the river/bottlenecks much (advantage IG much btw?), are fast and have a bunch of firepower without relying on a deathstar like unit to win games- you'll shoot the opponent to death. The Stormlord will bring extra durability to your units and with the Scythe speed, allow you to get into range with Night Fight whilst still out-ranging some parts of your opponent's army. Solar Pulses will enhance this. Traveller (BargeLords) will give you some extra anti-tank and combat ability. Nemesor gives you lovely utility in the game and better reserving options. Really, any of them can work here, pick which one you like the best.
If you want a Scythe based army to work though, Immortals are your best ticket as they are more durable, can operate at the 24" range effectively and are less reliant on outside support.
