Email in: 2k SW Thunderwolf Hybrid
"Hey Kirby, i emailed a list in awhile ago with a picture of my terminator rune priest, Melek. I figured you may be interested to see how he and the army have come along since then. The list is attached as an html.
So I rolled this list up intending it to be a highly mobile, TWC - centric strike force. To the end of modility i have exchanged two of the de - facto LF ML squads for Preds, and could free up 20 points to change the third squad as well. My concern with the list right now is 1) weather i am overspending on Wolf Gaurd, as they have no transport the terminators are going to be somewhat out of step with the overall list, and I don't see them as being a pivotal unit to the overall army and 2) Do you think it would be worth including a Wolf Lord on a TW? an alternate version of the list featured two with Rune Armor, Storm Shields, Saga of the Warrior Born and a Thunder Hammer and a Frost Blade respectively, however I thought this was investing waaaaaaay too many points into them. Wonderin what you thought

First off, love the blog. Your articles have really helped me become a better player and inspired me alot. Have been reading avidly for about 6 months now and always get excited when I see a new article has been posted!
Anyway, I have been trying to create a semi-competitive Loganwing list and was wondering what you thought of it. In particular I am worried that it might not have enough anti-tank. Without further ado here is the list.

Email in: New to the hobby: My initial Space Wolves 2000 points list
"Hi,
I'm new to the hobby and I would like to ask for your opinion regarding my initial 2000 Space Wolves army list. Also, could you give me a list of what I should buy to get all the units and equipment for the army? I'm having trouble on what packs I should buy to get the parts for the combi-plasma, combi-melta and tactical missile launchers. Can I find the parts in the Space Wolves Battleforce?
Most of the ideas for the list came from your blog combined with how I imagined my Space Wolves would function in the battlefield. It's no quite obvious that I refer to your blog for most things Space Wolf and basic info about the other armies. :D
I'm asking for this favor so that when I can try to minimize unnecessary purchases once I start buying the units piece-meal. Thanks a bunch and more power to your blog. You guys rock! I'll be looking forward to your future articles. :)

Long story short, my prof got me and friends into 40k, and me and my friends our rule books and codex's about a month ago. I believe I have a fair idea of how the game works and reading your blog has assured me quite a bit. The only thing that is bugging me is building a list. The codex and army I have choose is Tyranids. I am having a tough time understanding the net lists, and watching games hasn't helped. It seems that a lot of players exclusively try to include as many monstrous creatures, and heavily rely on Tervigon's and gants as their only troops critters. In terms of tactics it seems quite a few people try to walk and shoot there armies, hoping that they don't get shot back to badly when they get into melee with biggy's, which seems pretty boring and doesn't turn out the best reasults.
I have made a scale-able list between 500, 750, 850, 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750, 1850, and 2000 point based on what I feel would work a bit better. This is what come up with:

Email in: 1500pt Necron list "Farewell to 5th" tournament

After the great back-and-forth we had in the comments of your 'Tyranids v Necrons' article I thought I'd send you my list for an upcoming tournament.
Local meta predominantly shuns Net-lists and most net advice but I still expect to see mostly MEQ, (predominantly Grey Nights and vanilla Marines). I'll almost certainly be the only Necron player there.
It's a 1500pt game, so half what I usually play at, which made trimming damn hard. The list is designed around not spamming units (because I hate spam-lists) and having as much variety as possible.

I've enjoyed reading your 3++ site, and I've found it quite helpful in regards to list building and general game play. I first came to the world of Games Workshop about a year ago, a friend of mine works at a store, and he got me into 40k. My first army was Grey Knights, the way he intro'd me to all the armies left me certain that they were the ones for me. Seeing as they were the first models I ever got and painted, they didn't look that amazing, but fun was had. I've now come back to them, and have had a lot of fun converting them into chaos corrupted Grey Knights, stripping them of paint and jazzing them up with as much chaos iconography and daemonette heads as I can get my hands on. I still really like the look of Grey Knight armour. So I'm using the GK codex, but with converted models to suit my background for them.

Email in: 40k Daemons
"Hey Kirby,
Hope it’s warmer for you up there than it is down here in Tassie (you’d think growing up in Oregon back in the States would have prepared me for this, but nothing prepares you for that perpetual, winter long sea chill).
Anyway, this is about a 40k Daemons list. So far I don’t have much to work from, so I’d like your advice and numbers. You see, this is a somewhat interesting project – everything (initially at least) has to be Tzeentch because (initially at least) every model in the army has to be a self sculpted piece. While I may later break this and add in some Daemons of Khorne or Nurgle for instance (and maybe even a few of the less ugly GW models), for now, as I’ve said, it’s all gotta be the Big T.

Email in: Grey Knight Challenge
"Dear Kirby,
First off, the obligitory. Long time lurker, first time e-mailer. I think the site has some great advice to players both new and old (like me: I started back in 3ed. I do sometimes miss the days of the good ol' Rhino Rush, I used to play Blood Angels).
Right, onto the challenge! I was looking among the list compilations and was poking around the Grey Knight codex (I do this quite often with all codexs really) and was thinking of possible lists with the dex again. Now, me having the Interceptor squad as one of my favorite units (or any ranged Jump Infantry, really). I was wondering what kind of lists you could come up that use it. I play games on Vassal with my girlfriend all the time and we generally go for the 1500 range but I am curious how they scale to higher levels like 1750 or 2000.

I found your blog a few weeks ago (I know, what is wrong with me...) and I've been doing everything I can to absorb as much info as I can. Its been a great resource. Just a little background about me: I've been "into" 40K for almost 15 years but have played very little. I've read almost every piece of fiction there is and have been reading codices and rulebooks as well. I'm finally at a point that I can start playing games and I'm looking to start slow with vanilla marines before moving into another army (building necrons right now). I don't know much about my local meta yet but here's my crack at a list. I'm not looking necessarily for tournament wins but rather to just be competitive in friendly, local games (I'm not opposed to tournaments once I get my legs under me).

First time writer, long time lurker. I've finally gotten around to having the free time to paint my flesh tearers dantewing. I'd really like to take this army to tournaments over the summer. I understand the general weakness of using a sanguinary guard heavy army, but I'm willing to roll with it anyway. My goal is to make this list as competitive as possible.
Here's what I have so far:

On to business then! I plan on snagging one of the spots for the upcoming Throne of Skulls tournament. It's 1500 points and I am assuming will be a semi-competitive to competitive environment. I haven't played my Tyranids in quite a while and plan on getting as many games in as possible before the tournament but wanted to get as close to a final list as possible soon so I can begin busting my butt on conversions, painting, display board and such. I would really appreciate your input and/or advice.

"Heya Kirby,
Long time lurker, first time emailer. I know the Stormtalon was just officially announced and nobody's had time to playtest this thing, but i'm one of the few that's excited and willing to give the thing a chance. I was on the edge of my seat reading the earlier rumors that you could "escort" deep strikers with it. i thought this was the gonna be the extra OOMPH my drop pod army was in need of. after seeing the newest pics straight outta White Dwarf, i'm kinda let down. there won't be any stormtalons "escorting" my first 3 drop pods onto the table, miraculously saving those dreadnoughts from turn 2 destruction.

Email in: Query regarding a draigo/karmazov list

I spoke to you earlier this evening about some list advice. Firstly, while I have been playing WH40k for about 7 years now I have played predominantly balanced armies against a variety of opponents. Recently I have started playing more competitive games particularly against Jason (Jason Collins I believe you know him) and while he generally tables me or wins convincingly I am gaining ground on him and learning from him.
With that in mind I have put together a list or part of one which is a work in progress. I must admit though the idea to add karmazov to the list was jason's idea but everything else is pretty stock standard.
