"Hey Kirby,
I recently got the 6'th edition codex, and have been loving it! The
new rules are amazing, and tyranids are now a lot better. Here is my
1500 Point Tyranid List I would like you to look at.
-----
The Swarmlord - w/ 3x Lash Whip Tyrant Guard
3x Zoanthrope
2x Hive Guard
2x Hive Guard
x6 Genestealers w/ Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, Broodlord
x6 Genestealers w/ Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, Broodlord
x6 Genestealers w/ Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, Broodlord
x6 Genestealers w/ Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, Broodlord
The Idea of this list is to have the Genestealers Come in on turn 2,
where they are needed. The Swarmolord's Alien Cunning makes turn 2
reserve roles 2+, and lets me reroll which side I outflank from. The
Rest of the army moves up the middle. The new Deployment design is
even better, because they let me outflank even closer to the enemy.
The Swarmlord and Tyrant Guard Unit will murder most anything, and
with "Look Out Sir" I can keep the Swarmlord alive a lot longer. The
Broodlord is evil when it comes to challenges. If another character
accepts the Broodlords challenge, I can simply use the Hypnotic Gaze
Power and shut him down anyway. This puts my opponent in a catch 22.
Genestealers can now crack light transports easily thanks to HP,
generally getting automatic pens thanks to rending. Hive guard are now
also far far deadlier, and since the Swarmlord can grant preferred
enemy to a unit, the Hive Guard can be given rerolls to hit. The
Zoanthropes are for Cracking things like Land Raiders, which are now
just pure evil, as well as being able to fire a relatively deadly
small blast. With all these bonuses, I don't see how cracking tanks is
hard for this sort of Nid List.
I would love to hear what you have to say about this list. I am not
trying to win a tournament here, I'm just looking for a fun semi
competetive Nids list!
Thanks in advance,
- Genguy"
Eh? 24 Genestealers is not a scoring force, at all. You've got plenty of anti-vehicle firepower and are very scary to small/medium numbers of MEQ armies but hordes of any description? You will be overwatched and shot to death, particularly since you're fielding so few units.
The Swarmlord, whilst scary, isn't really any better than a standard Hive Tyrant for the points you pay. He's better but worth the extra 120 points? Probably not. I'd replace him with a normal Hive Tyrant, grab Hive Commander or Old Adversary, and morph all the Genestealers into two larger squads (don't need scything talons, especially if you have OA) and look to get some more Troop durability. A larger Termagant squad + Tervigon wouldn't go amiss for example (though you may need to drop a Zoanthrope or Tyrant Guard then).
Still not hyper-competitive but much better than the original - 24 genestealers as scoring is way too light and you're keeping the core of the list essentially.
