Stick Or Twist: True Line Of Sight

There are several things in the 5th Edition ruleset that are good for the game, and some that are...not as good.  With us at the doorstep of 6th, basically killing time until it shatters our dreams of a balanced and fun tabletop wargame, let’s discuss some of the key aspects of 5e, and see if we can separate the wheat from the chaff, determining what we should keep and throw out.

To open: True Line Of Sight.

Building BA 1850, by TKE...

I have a Tournament coming up on the 19th and 20th of next month, which is like 4 weeks away or something. (I know it's 5, but if I tell myself it's less maybe I'll feel a greater sense of urgency and get more done?)

I would DEARLY love to actually take a 5th Edition army to a 5th Edition tournament for the first time (excluding a Doubles event, but I don't count that as a real Tournament, because the game simply isn't designed to function that way, and it breaks so many silly little fundamentals...I'm digressing, this isn't a rant about them, and I don't want the parentheses to contain more actual text than the article proper...) - I may not get another chance to take a 5e army to a 5e event after all.

Shrike Carpet Bomb

I saw a post over on Creative Twilight, in which Thor discussed (briefly) a game he had recently with a variant Shrike Bomb list (briefly, the guy capitulated after it went off in his face [don't we all, ladies?] {er... what?} and ceded to Thor [Don't we{stop it!}])

...ANYway, this got me to thinking of a different way in which to try and use the Fleeting Shadow Captain in an army list,  way in which I haven't seen him employed.  Granted, it's highly unlikely I was first to think this up - but I've never seen it - due credit can and will be apportioned to actual pioneers. :p
What I basically wanted to set out to do was to create a list that really inflicted a knock-out blow like conventional Shrike Bomb, but with the fire support elements that are usually, shall we say, LESS prevalent when people start taking Rocks, realise they need Double- or Triple-Rock to reasonably hit the foe early/hard enough (at all?!) and start going Points-Sinks galore...

*Ahem*

Like I said, I didn't want to quite go down that road, so I needed, basically, a SHOOTY version.  Immediately (much, much faster than it took you to read this sentence) I thought of the Raven Guard I plan to build after the summer - my Forge World-heavy, Black Templar-Codexed, Always Infiltrating All The Time list.

Counts As Again: Adeptus Mechanicus

Firstly, Ladies, Gentlemen, Unicorns, Ears of Corn, Unicrons, Unicyclists and indeterminate 'Others' - let us celebrate.  From this day forward, there shall be no more Guest Articles by the hip-hop hipster from MindWar FTW, TheKingElessar.  Yay! #Celebrate, good times, come on!#

On the other hand, he's now joined this ad-hoc assemblage of writing talent, and will be vomiting his thoughts directly into your brainpan via the medium of your screen here, as well as his own 'blog'.  Enjoy!*

With that established, let's move on to what I feel is an important thing to get over introductorily.  I'm not here to rain on everyone else's parade, there is a tremendous collection of talent already here, and I have my own moderately successful blog to look after.  I have no interest on stealing thunder (or any other weather-related metaphors) by posting as regularly as, say, AbusePuppy.  I'm not in any way saying that if I did my articles would automagically be better than the others' and make them feel and look bad...but I'm not interested in taking that chance.  :p  I much prefer to be a sort of ad-hoc personage, floating in and out, probably once a week or every other week, and applying a liberal dose of awesome to the proceedings before swanning off to troll the comments section.  Mostly, I will be posting as and when I have something I genuinely care about to express - and this whole kerfuffle about Counts As is something I care about very much.
