In 5th Loganwing was an excellent foot list due to mobile firepower, good basic Troops and good supporting units. It used the easy and durable cover system of 5th edition to keep foot Marines alive and through sheer weight of firepower/attacks, could push opponents off the board. Unfortunately cover has changed significantly - we'll see if this impacts Loganwing significantly in 6th.

40k Metrics: Building a Better Devastator in 6th Edition

Hi, Nikephoros again.  In 5^th Edition, if someone said they were bringing Long Fangs, Devastators or Havoks you could safely assume that they were going to be armed with missiles.  It was a no brainer for the most part because they were simply the most points efficient weapon available.  Does this hold true in 6^th?  The way we go about killing vehicles, and to a lesser extent Monstrous Creatures, has changed quite a bit.  The old paradigm might not hold true at all anymore.

Space Wolves in 6th: The New Fur-izon

So, uh, what are we talking about?  Space Wolves?  Whatever.

Space Wolves took quite a few changes in 6th and not all of them good.  While the core of the army is the same (Grey Hunter good, Blood Claw bad) you have a lot of neat new options from rules changes and allies.  Let's talk about the biggest changes.

Vassal Bat Rep

SirBiscuit and I did some Vassaling today so I decided to record one of our games and do a voice over. It's Vassal so not the best depiction of play but hopefully you get the general gist. I've sped the video up and taken snapshots at each phase of play and added in a voice over. Let me know what you think in terms of this style of bat rep when real games are unavailable.

Edit: so of course my video software didn't work. It recorded, but didn't work so rather than a commentary battle report we'll just look at some things that cropped up in relation to the new edition. (end game picture above)

Event Horizon Battle Report Game 3: Blood Angels vs Space Wolves

Game 3 was against Grant O'Dwyer and was filmed*, my Round 1 opponent from Leviathon. Re-match time! Mission was Spearhead with Table Quarters primary and Kill points secondary (so 3 KP Missions Day 1, I was worried about this heading in with an MSU army in being knocked out before the top 8). Grant was using a very Grey Hunter heavy list with four near full squads + character and Wolf Guard support. Add in some Thunderwolves for big hitting power and Scouts for utility and the only thing lacking from his list was firepower - he still had some Long Fangs and other ranged weapons (CML, plasma, Rune Priest, etc.) but it wasn't what we expect from SWolves. One too many characters IMO which could have bought another fire support unit.

"Hey Kirby, i emailed a list in awhile ago with a picture of my terminator rune priest, Melek. I figured you may be interested to see how he and the army have come along since then. The list is attached as an html.

So I rolled this list up intending it to be a highly mobile, TWC - centric strike force. To the end of modility i have exchanged two of the de - facto LF ML squads for Preds, and could free up 20 points to change the third squad as well. My concern with the list right now is 1) weather i am overspending on Wolf Gaurd, as they have no transport the terminators are going to be somewhat out of step with the overall list, and I don't see them as being a pivotal unit to the overall army and 2) Do you think it would be worth including a Wolf Lord on a TW? an alternate version of the list featured two with Rune Armor, Storm Shields, Saga of the Warrior Born and a Thunder Hammer and a Frost Blade respectively, however I thought this was investing waaaaaaay too many points into them. Wonderin what you thought

I'm new to the hobby and I would like to ask for your opinion regarding my initial 2000 Space Wolves army list. Also, could you give me a list of what I should buy to get all the units and equipment for the army? I'm having trouble on what packs I should buy to get the parts for the combi-plasma, combi-melta and tactical missile launchers. Can I find the parts in the Space Wolves Battleforce?
Most of the ideas for the list came from your blog combined with how I imagined my Space Wolves would function in the battlefield. It's no quite obvious that I refer to your blog for most things Space Wolf and basic info about the other armies. :D

I'm asking for this favor so that when I can try to minimize unnecessary purchases once I start buying the units piece-meal. Thanks a bunch and more power to your blog. You guys rock! I'll be looking forward to your future articles. :)

Out of the Box In Your Face Space Wolves 1750pts

Recently I've been reviewing Space Wolves and looking at them in a more open minded manner (to my already completely outside the box of conventional internet based thinking heh)and fiddling with differing lists in a non-comp orientated mind-set. The list below is one such army whereby I was trying to take a fast in your face from the first turn approach yet also work in enough elements that the list could be adapted to being played as a more stand back and shoot (both in a static and mobile manner) army. Whether the fast drop or the stand and shoot approaches are used depends on the opponent, whether you go first or second and the mission involved.

Long time reader (usually every day) and occasional commenter on spacewolf posts. I've played wolves since I started playing 40k with my mates in 2010 and your blog has been a good help over the years. Hoping to head to some tournaments in the future, but in Scotland we don't have many options. After trying out various ideas and nearly every unit over the years I've come up with an 1,850 point list that is different from most lists I've seen on the web. This might be because it doesn't work, but here it is followed by some of my reasoning.

Welcome to the second wonderful installment of our little series here. This time around we're going to talk about a more unusual choice in the list of sub-par options: the Razorback with twin-linked Assault Cannon.

"But that's not a bad unit!" some of you are undoubtedly rising from your chairs to shout. And you're right- when fielded by Blood Angels, where it benefits from aggressive mobility, or Grey Knights, where it gets upgraded stats, immunity to suppression and support from other mid-range forces, it's quite good. But when Space Marines or Space Wolves field them, it is decidedly underwhelming.

Until now, I've been one of (presumably) many silent watchers (or is that readers?) of the wonderful 3++ blog - reading with great interest, but never had much to say.
I'm really impressed by the high quality blogging/advice that comes out of your site (especially compared to a lot of other 40k sites out there) - it's really balanced and intellectual. The rest of the internet should be more like 3++ :)
But that's enough of feeding your ego - you all probably already know how awesome you are :P

I've been lurking the 40k world for the better part of a year, mostly reading the novels, playing the pc games etcetera. Over the last couple of months I managed to get into the tabletop via borrowing armies and playing casually. After a bit of putzing about with Dark Eldar, Chaos, Space Marines, Imperial and the like, I've settled on Space wolves as in investment. The store I play at generally has 1.5k to 1750 point losts. Some members in the chatbox on your page proved helpful in refining this list, but I don't think it's quite there yet. The list has already had a few revisions, but at it's core it's still the first army list I've thrown together. What can I do to tighten it and focus it a bit more?

A while back I was discussing Reecius' Bjorn List with someone on DakkaDakka. He wanted to fit in Thunderwolves. Working on the list I found some things I personally didn't like in Reecius' original list, so for myself I tweaked it further.

I've been playing it in games lately as one of my regular opponents wanted to play a more 'hard' list than what I normally bring. The battles we had previously were very closely fought, but I don't normally bring mech so he wasn't getting the practice he wanted for tournament play. At any rate, its been a lot of fun to play! Its entirely different than what I normally bring so the freshness is nice.

Whats up in 3++ world? I've been a follower of the site since my friend introduced me to it at the inception of my chaos space wolf army. Which has not been meeting the success which I am accustomed to with my ork army. I think my lists are usually solid, but I have a tendency to forget that my space wolves are not orks once they hit the table. I have a loganwing list that i ran a few times and liked alot, gave my friend's grey knights a run for their money, but my focus now is a combination razorback/thunderwolf list. I imagine it working as sort of a one two punch. This will be my "build - to" list, and I intend it to be what dictates my next few purchases. Which is a large part of why I'd appreciate your imput.

Greetings and welcome to the third in the “It’s Like Magic!” series, where I show you how to get an army up to tabletop standard quickly and easily.

This time round; Space Wolves! Whilst grey can be a difficult colour to work with, I am hoping to show that an acceptable tabletop standard can be achieved quickly using just a basecoat + wash. The same technique can be applied to other similarly-coloured Chapters (i.e. Space Sharks!)

First up is a Grey Hunter. There will be a Wolf Scout in the near future.

I hope this e-mail finds you well. I am a long time reader, though this is my first list I am sending in for analysis. I am not quite into the feedback I was getting from 40k online, which was usually bollocks, so greener pastures where sought and found. Good times indeed.

The list I am running is a hybrid wolves list, fairly standard fare for the most part. In my lists I always try to include units I love, such as tactical marines, terminators or dreadnaughts. This is why I play wolves when I need to get my tactical (or grey hunter) fix. I'm not into MSU, so if any recommendations you have could avoid going in this direction it would be appreciated. I understand its virtues, I don't however like the way it limits your hand to hand options. (If however you feel that its the way to go then please, by all means go ahead)
