Codex Orks Review: Part 8, Army Lists: Battlewagon Blitz

So we come to the competitive Ork base list.. Battlewagon Blitz.
For the uninitiated, what is the Blitz.
Like all good Ork lists, we eschew any level of balance and lay out as many of a give model as we can, in this case, Battlewagons.

So why the Battlewagon?
Simple. It does the most reliable Anti-Tank in the codex (albeit by running over your enemy), it also carries the largest number of boys of any vehicle, and its AV14 on the front negating a lot of your enemy's power.

So let's break this baby down.

Our base Battlewagon Kit: (depending on your preference, this is mine).
Battlewagon, Red Paint Job, Big Shoota, Armour Plates, Grot Riggers and a Deffrolla.
What this means is we have a 13 inch move, D6 S10 hits on anything in the road, that will ignore Crew Stunned (hence not negating the one "weapon" on the vehicle) that will fix Immobilised on a 4+.
For this beast of a weapon, we pay ....
135pts.

So, lets fill the HS slots.
Total spent: 405pts

Right, so what next. The other way to get more Battlewagons is as Nob Troop Transports.
So, we want at least one of those, probably 2. Add a Warboss to make it Troops....
Warboss + toys = 115pts.
Nob squad (6 nobs + painboy is the optimum in my opinion) plus kit out - 285
Battlewagon, another 135

Total spent: 940pts

Hmm, lets protect our Wagons.
Big Mek, KFF, 85pts.
Let's also fill them.
2x20 boys, 1x19 (mek rides here) = 474 points (no heavy weapons)

Total spent: 1499pts

So at 1750 level, we squeeze in another Nob Squad Battlewagon...
Probably by going for 3 cheap Nobs and calling it quits, or spacing out the nobs to even the 2 squads.
At 2000, we duplicate our powerhouse Nob Squad above, leaving about 80 points to burn on more PK's for the squad.

Battlewagon, Red Paint Job, Big Shoota, Armour Plates, Grot Riggers, Boarding Plank and a Deffrolla.

As I had points to burn, I added Boarding planks to our base layout above.
So, 5 Battlewagons with 4+ cover, 60 boys, 13 FNP Nobs and a Warboss in a pear tree.

So, how do you play this army
Charge.
Simple, as fast as you can, and into as many different squads as you can. They break or die. Their call.
There are two tricks you need to learn though.
1. When you tank shock a unit, don't make the model with the meltagun/meltabomb move. only models that physically move thanks to a tank shock can death or glory.
2. If you ram a skimmer and it dodges, use the Boarding Plank CC attacks on it.
Apart from that, move as a block, give each wagon rotation space (to ram/tank shock with. seriously, its important!).
PRACTICE LEGAL TANK SHOCKING / RAMMING. To play this army you need to be 100% above board on rules that 75% of players find hazy because ramming with a Rhino is dumb and they haven't ever have had to deal with it before.
Finally, remember you actually have CC models inside those wagons, and all but 1 wagon is scoring when carrying them. Ram, shock, jump out after the tank shock, and charge.

How do you beat this army
1. Death or Glory with Meltaguns.
No, seriously. You auto-hit, taking another D6 S10 hits but hey, you still get your save. They take a guaranteed melta shot, with +2 to the damage roll. On a pen hit your shooter survives the attack on a 2+. On a 3+ the vehicle breaks. Hell, even on a Glance you roll normally on the Pen chart.
2. Block. Block like you are playing Jenga and Tetris at the same time. To move through a vehicle after a Ram it needs to blow with a big 6, or the wagon stops. Blocking mission accomplished.
3. Don't be scared of the Deffrollas. They are really cute and fluffy, and while you have a 4+ or better armour save, you will be golden. The S10 is scary, but you still make saves like a marine.
4. Don't hide in cover unless you are going to be assaulted. The Wagons don't fear cover. The contents don't really get grenades.
5. Finally, side armour shots are all the rage this time of year. I guarantee your butt wont look to big in there.

Variations
The most obvious is to swap the Warboss for Ghazzy as he is a freight train.
The other ...

It's known as the Deff Wing, and you will be heaving about that in the next few days.
