Metatransition - Ork Kan Wall in 6th Edition

The other kind of Kan Wall.
Image from televation.com.

I had a question in a previous post - how can you bring the 5th ed Kan Wall into 6th edition, when all your vehicles have a measley 2 HP each, and die to a stiff breeze?

I claimed this was quite easy, and I stand by my previous statement.

So before I rattle out the concept, let me outline one thing.

I will not be providing you a list here. I will be providing you ideas to work from. Why? I honestly don't know the end codex well enough to list write it properly, so I don't want to mess up the upgrades for you all.

6e: Wound allocation and how to break it.

Well we come to the big bugbear of 5th edition that our new ruleset has 'fixed', Wound Allocation.

We all know the fun and games of Nob Bikers and Paladin bricks, and needing to cause 127 wounds to kill a model, and aren't we all glad thats gone.

So how does it work now?

What you need to know about list building in 6th editionno

Hi gals, girls, and those of you somewhere  in the middle.

I have had the book for a few days now, and have had a fair chance to absorb it.
Do I know it perfectly? Hell No! :-)

I'm not, and never claimed to be, a 40k virtuoso.

So moving on. Whats the requirements for 40k lists now? (of course things outside this list work, this is the perfect storm of items).

CENTURION!

For those unfortunates of you who cannot make it to the first No-Comp Qld event for 2012 (sorry Ty, 6% comp is 6% comp :P), I just want to rub it in that this weekend, in about 90 minutes, we will kick off Centurion 2012.

Centurion is a 2k NOVA Format event run over 5 rounds. We are hoping to pull a few latecomers and get to 40 players, we are currently hovering around 34.

Kirby has asked me, as I have nothing better to do (aren't you playing?), to get as many stats as I can for the event and make it all pretty and mathsy for him. (no, I will do that. Just give me the data =D)

Deathstars getting you down? Try new Deathstar-OFF!

EDIT: +1 slice of humble pie for me. As per the comments, on P45 the rulebook specifically says that the squads must stay in unit coherency, regardless. Oh well, you are now welcome to read the post and just laugh at me instead.

Deathstars getting you down? How do you deal with a Paladin block when you haven't got a pile of AP1/2 firepower that you can lay down into thes squad?

Note: I am using Paladins as an example here - TWC WolfStars, NobStars/Nob Bikers, TH/SS Terminators, anything that's not fearless.

Now, I have pointed out the cavaet "fearless" so you all know where I am going here, Tank Shock.

We all know the best way to deal with Paladins is to shoot them with triple-las Vendetta Squadrons and Melta vets. However, I play Orks, and the sum total of AP2 I get is Weirdboys and Kustom Mega Blastas, both of which arent at home in my lists. Thus, I have to resort to Powerklaws, which work just fine (for one round of combat then get back in their carry bag) or Tank Shock.

Presenting ... Centurion 2012

I would like to present: Centurion 2012

In 2010, we saw 0 no-comp events in Queensland. In 2011, the first was Centurion. With a turnout including players from Sydney and Scotland, as well as our local Queensland players, it was an amazing event. We have seen a proliferation of events since then, and while I cannot justifiably claim credit for this... I will anyway.

... fester - who are you again?

Good evening ladies and germs.
Long time no see, and that is how it goes when you have two kids, and no 40k playtime since June.

Anyway, I have been beating away at my Loganwing, and with me running "fester's Xmas Bash" the first weekend of December - a one day 1500pt no comp nova event (4 games), and playing in it as well, the army is coming together.

Today, my Chaos Knights turned up so I could start on the Thunderhoof Cav.

Anyway, onto the gratuitous photos!

Back to Basics - What am I missing .... ?

Hi guys, long time no see.
Well life has thrown me another bundle of joy, a son, Lachlan (or fester jnr as he may be known in time). He is great, but unfortunately eats into my hobby time just a little.
But back to relevance. What this does give me is a lot of list writing and perfecting time, even if I don't have to much time to actually blog, play, or paint such lists.

I am currently battling with a Loganwing list, and wanted to talk a little about my experiences building an elite army.

First: Purgatus is doing a Loganwing how-to on his blog Best Overall. If you don't follow this you need to, its in depth (so far), logical and well thought out. Now if he would just get onto the Troops section *nudge nudge*.

Hybrid Blood Angels, the fester way

So, I managed to get a sweet deal on 25 Chapterhouse Jump Packs and have decided that I want to try to do a Hybrid BA list for the next year's tournaments, and let the Orks simmer a bit. I will see how this goes, but it's worth a shot. Orks are my first love, after all :)

I have been bouncing ideas of Kirby, SneakyDan, and others as to where I should go with this, and I think I have an interesting template that works for me. Does it work overall? Who knows.

So, the quick definition of "hybrid" first:
Both Mech and Foot, in the same list, with some form of synergy.

fester has another Tournament... failure.

Hi lads and ladettes,

Your intrepid Ork Player/Reporter fester here once again reporting on how he failed at 40k. Again.
Long time no see. And well, will be longer again until the next time given that I have just welcomed fester Jnr into this world (that's #2 for those who are counting) and I have all but been stopped playing 40k until 2012. Joy! Saying this, I will quickly throw together another post for tonight chroncling my Hybrid BA for people to laugh at and ridicule.

Anyway, onto the tournament.

Tournament recap - how fester fails at 40k.

So ladies and gents, the unthinkable occurred.
I played a game of 40k.
Oh. My. God.

Actually, I played 5, at a semi-local comp RTT.
So off I trundled, with the Ork List that beat Kirby, cocky as a sock full of ... umm.. roosters.

Well, you can imagine what happened...

Firstly, The list I took is here:

 Mek w/KFF + Bosspole
2x3 Nobs w/1 Skorcha
2 Wagons w/Rolla, Big Shoota
11 Shootas, Trukk, Ram
10 Shootas w/Bosspole Nob, Trukk, Ram
3x11 Sluggaz + Bosspole PK Nob, Trukk, Ram
3x2 Buggies w/rokkits
3x3 Kans w/zookas

Back to Basics: Beyond what the Internet says lies the truth.

This post is a little less "back to basics" and more "don't always believe what you read".
At the end of the day, this hobby is about you and your enjoyment. It is also about how you play, how you react to situations, and how you like to see battles unfold.

I am a reasonable Orks player. I am not the best, but I find that I definitely win more than I lose.
I am a terrible Space Marine player. I have a reasonable army, but my style just doesn't work with the army. Playing them the way that I am told to play them means I win more games, and changing the list to suit my style means I win more games, but at the end of the day, what people tell me to do isn't right for me.

This is a lesson learnt from the Nova Event I ran, Centurion.

You need to, as a player, assess what each unit does beyond what Kirby, Stelek, Me, and everyone else tells you they should do.

Email In: Not dem silva beakies eivva.

Hey Kirby & Fester,
I really enjoy 3++ is the new black and its a great blog. Being a long time 40k fan (I own the original Rogue Trader book still) I think your blog is a fanastic rescource for the 40k community. I have been to a lot of websites and find 3++ the best around for great article, tactics and hobby guides. So great job.

Now, the reason for the email. Its been a while since I have seen an army list review that wasnt GK or some marine list. I have a 1750 tourney next month and wanted to share with you my version of the Ork Dred Bash list. I brought a 1500 point version to a tourny last month that had 84 players and placed 7th over all. I just added a 3rd 30 man boyz sqaud to the 1750.

Da Horde Returnz

I feel terrible for not keeping the Ork stuff going, but once more life takes over.

I am going though the 6th month of my #2 bub's pregnancy (no, I'm the Dad not the Mum, but I still have to live with it), a new car we picked up on Friday, starting a new job in 3 weeks and a whole host of other stuff that really is neither here nor there, but all adds up to - I get 1 hour of painting every other night and I haven't seen the value in using it to write a blog post when I have projects to complete.
Anyway, without further ado, the reason I have been painting is so that I can re-complete the MVB list I am running for this year's Tourney Season.
This is also the list that Archnomad ran @ Centurion. It's in the archives somewhere.
0/10 Comp, here we come!

Tau FAQ Updated

Hi lads and ladies.
fish'ead!

Just a quick one - this was brought to my attention by Eltnot, and I haven't seen much chin wag about it so here it is -
TAU FAQ

Pretty much the highlight of the FAQ (as a non-Tau player, anyway).

Q: Are gun drones that have been detached from a vehicle able to contest objectives and do they give away kill points? (p30)
A: Yes to both questions

Q: What happens to the gun drones on a vehicle if the
vehicle is destroyed? (p30)
A: The gun drones will be destroyed along with the
vehicle. Note that they do not give away an additional kill point as they have not been detached from the vehicle.

Seeker missiles have also been changed and Piranhas now have to take the same upgrades on each vehicle in the unit. The option of no KPs for Gun Drones on vehicles though is very nice as bare bones Fish are now less of a liability.

More GK Fun Lists - Boom Boom GK

Hi Lads and ladies, once again.
I was toying with the thought of seeing how many blasts I can stick in a GK List and still keep it playable...

With the Inquisitor HQ's and Techmarines running around (well, not moving, actually) with Conversion Beemers, Psychic Blasts Psycannons and more, I thought "why the hell not!"

*Note* This will not be a top tables army, just some fun to try out with your mates */Note*

Grey Knights List thoughts: GKBomb

Welcome back to fester's crazy thoughts. I apologize for my last post creating such anger and hate. Before I get onto the content I just want to say this: I still think it works, I don't want it to and I expect GW to FAQ it.

Right, ideas.

Well, recently on BoLs, Goatboy has done up a GK Shunt list, where the DreadKnights and Interceptors shunt into the enemy lines in the Scout move (from the Grandmaster) and go all shenanigans on you.

I want to consider something similar, but a little less "FAQable".
I am thinking an old school CSM DaemonBomb list.

Grey Knights: Reading Comprehension & Coteaz

So I, as every other red blooded 40k nut, have been flicking through whatever copies of the Grey Knights codex we can get out hands on, and I am putting up the first "FAQ DIS".

I am looking at the way that Coteaz interacts with Henchmen.

His special rules include the following:

"
Lord of Formosa
Inquisitorial Henchmen Warbands are Troops choices in an army that include Inquisitor Torquemada Coteaz, and are not limited by the number of Inquisitors in your army.
" - GW's Codex Grey Knights
