Comment Etiquette

There have been some crazy comments been thrown back and forth lately so I'm putting my proverbial foot down so to speak.

Knock it off.

This isn't direct at anyone in particular but when commenting here you need to be civil. I don't care if someone comes on and says Necrons are the best thing since sliced bread and insults every family member you posses and everything you stand for, don't sink to their level and don't drag 3++ with you. Hell, BroLo showed me a thread the other day where people were saying I clearly have never won a game of 40k nor kissed a girl (because that's how we measure life success, number of 40k games won and girls kissed). You know what I did? Laughed. You know what BroLo did, responded with reason.

Ultimately the people who said those things aren't going to listen but the information is out there. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about things. Explaining things and being rational is the right way. You may get frustrated and that happens but there is no reason to lose it and abuse/insult the person in question. Even if you are providing rational information within that abuse, it's not necessary and lowers the standards of this site.

I don't want to moderate what is said in the comments. I don't want 3++ to become a cesspit and I certainly don't want to turn people off from coming here to learn and discuss things.

Watch what you say and treat others with respect. That's not too much to ask.

Necrons are the best thing since sliced bread! :P

some one had to.

yeah but, sliced bread sux without cheese and ham! (pick 2 armies) so, have it! xD

Jokes aside, I see where you're comming from Kirby and I totally agree, I normally don't talk much around here but I like to have a look from time to time on what's going on on the other side of the globe.

Normally I just ignore "junk comments" but some people might be put off by them.
So do what you gotta do. :)
Well I think Space Wolves cover the cheese :P
I'll bring back the thumbs down just for you :P.

Well if you are going to do that then I think you should also add a # of girls kissed to each persons profile, that way we can tell if they are a good player or not.
BroLo would break that counter in seconds.

Or claim he would at least :P.
Shut it armchair general, just because you've never kissed a girl, you don't have to make this about me. :p

Pretending your make-believe girlfriend is unwell is not cool. ;)
Look, Bro_Lo, we're not here to discuss your attempted sexual assault charges that you have pending, we're here to talk Warhammer.

Which we have proved you are bad at, so don't even question the fact.
We've proven four times actually. Twice with Tyranids and once with Tau (the other was Space Wolves). He must really suck =D.

(Or Black Templars do!)

All the love kirbs, btw there is a gang/commie mini domestic terrorist organization called the pink army, everytime I look at your followers it makes me laugh =]

What country is the "commie-lite" radical group in? I looked online for "pink army" and only saw Breast Cancer research groups and a band with 3 Teenage girls.
This is one of the things that grated me the most about the 40k world. If you can't comment without swearing, being aggressive or offensive, without being able to open your mind or structure an argument, then don't comment at all. Participants in this hobby have a bad enough reputation as it is, this kind of pathetic behaviour doesn't help.

*heads back off to B&C to moderate more rage*

You spelt internetz wrong. :p
Being civil should be just common sense in my opinion. This should apply to forums, chatrooms and everything in between as well. I've seen people 'reason' that "That's what the internet is for" when making rude, insulting or derogatory comments. If it's not something you would say to someone's face then it shouldn't be spouted off online either. The internet does grant a certain level of anonymity that allows that sort of thing to go without repercussions, but being a responsible adult should give us the ability to know when we are about to cross that line and respect the other person by not doing so. Should you agree with everything everyone else say? No. But there are ways of disagreeing and having actual discussions without it turning into a shouting match akin to foul mouthed children. It just involves using a brain.
Couldn't agree more fella. Glad to see that at least some blogs are being monitored to try and lessen this sort of behaviour.

@BroLo- it's not the 40K world, but it is the loud ones. I like the fact that you keep your calm under fire (so to speak) and respond in an mature way when confronted with behaviour we may find unseemly. Keep it up, and don't get dispirited- there are people out there who appreciate your efforts, we just won't tell you very often ;)
A world without bad guys will be so boring, and it's the bad guys that make you shine brighter as the white knight. Deep inside your heart, you know this is the truth.

I missed drama? Damn it.
This is John Gabriel's Greater Internet Theory from the guys at penny-arcade.com

It sums it up pretty nicely:

Just a minor nitpick: I don't think you can "put your proverbial foot down so to speak". You either "put your proverbial foot down" or you "put your foot down to to speak". If you use both at the same time, you're using a tautology (which is a stick the tau use to beat people who say both at the same time)

You're right, "Tautology" would be a really good name for a Tau blog or article series.

Stolen'd.
Wait for the new codex but put a copyright on it right now! lol

I have to say, I've only started hanging out on 3++ recently and I've always loved that things were just about improving the game and also how it is a really friendly environment for someone starting to take the game seriously (like me).

I'm really glad you wrote this article Kirby :) 'Cuz arguments make commissar sad and no one like a sad commissar.

Arguing (or debating) is fine. It's how you go about it :P.

Bitching is bad though *frowny face*

Yup :D
I read on a blog somewhere that Kirby wasn't into girls. Oh well. :p

As far as comments go, I apologise for my part. I'm not always wholly civil, and resort to petty points scoring, because I'm very good at it. lol

Then again, when you make have a thread your own comments, it's easy to hit the target, it's almost Spray and Pray. ;) Haha.

Also, how many games is worth a girl kiss? I think we need a more detailed scoring system to value our individual worth here. If anyone here has kissed more girls than they've won 40k games, I will be amazed. Unless they only play Fantasy. That's cheating.
What about sarcasm? Can I use that?
