The list isn't my Eldar cup of tea due to the shorter range it relies on and lack of Farseer (mainly for Doom & RoWard). You really need to be able to pinpoint 24" and keep most of your army in that bubble so you get maximum usage of your 90+ S6 shots. This means it plays a bit more aggressively than your standard Eldar army who are generally more survivable across the board with more Serpents (though tri-falcons are painful) and therefore don't need to sit on that 24" cusp as much to be effective. Outside of 24" this army only has 9 S8 shots & 12 S6 whilst inside it has over 90 S6 shots and the 9 S8 shots.

However, it's still a good list but a lot more finese based than your usual Eldar. If this is your first time playing Eldar I'd suggest something more Serpent based (there are quite a few on this blog) otherwise it's fine competitively and doesn't rely on psychic powers to augment its offensive prowess.

I'm a little confused by your comments about the reliance on psychic powers in the YTTH list.. considering it is called 'a different way of doing mechdar' for a reason.. the two biggest being more dakka, and no farseer. The list has an autarch for the nice reserve manipulation abilities, and spare points for more needed things.

This is the theoretical 2k eldar list i modeled on that one that i really wish i could play.

Farseer w/ Warding, Guide (rides in a transport, which one varies based on who needs guide most. For example, vs raiders goes w/ FD's, while vs light mech spam goes in a falcon)

5x FD in Serpent w/ TL BL, Cannon
5x FD in Serpent w/ TL BL
5x FD in Serpent w/ TL BL

5x DA in Serpent w/ TL BL, Cannon
5x DA in Serpent w/ TL BL, Cannon
5x DA (Goes in Falcon)

2x Viper w/ 2x Cannon
2x Viper w/ 2x Cannon
2x Viper w/ 2x Cannon

Falcon w/ Scatter, Cannon
Falcon w/ Scatter, Cannon
Falcon w/ Scatter, Cannon

Board wide psychic defense, 8x eldar grav tanks, 15 melta guns, 5 TL Bright Lances, 3 Pulse Lasers, and all told 66 s6 shots going down range each turn.

@Tyler; re-read "otherwise it's fine competitively and doesn't rely on psychic powers to augment its offensive prowess. "

I much prefer chris' list in this style as you're getting the massive dakka from Vypers/Falcons but have more AV12 outlets + psychic defense.

Ah, that list lol.

It was the list that inspired me to play Eldar after I realized Dark Eldar weren't going to premier soon enough for me to get decent usage out of them before I graduate from college.

Its inherent weaknesses though were pointed out by Kirby. No psychic defense, and I believe the army operates in a somewhat awkward fashion:

You want to hang back with your DA Falcons and shoot, but you need your Vypers to be in front of them, granting them cover saves so they don't get blown away (they are always either priority one or two after FD Serpents). This means that most of your awesome str 6 shots aren't doing anything. Also, one of Eldar's strengths is their ability to shoot out of range or Marines, this list mostly negates that (and ROW, which is really, really awesome).

What the army is really built to do is reserve itself (either entirely or mostly) then en-mass counterattack if your opponent moved forward, or flat-out everything if they are parked. Either way it is very alpha-strike dependant. Not that this is bad, but you are taking a gamble either way.

Also know that this army wasn't created to be some end all be all competitive Eldar list, while it is very good, its just a "different" way of doing things.
This is an experts army, you have to be VERY good at staying exactly at 24" as Kirby said. I perfer a more balanced approach right now.

Hola,

I play a list somewhat similar to this. As in, I go the short range route too. What I have found is that spirit stones are much, much more useful than in the typical 'stay back and be a dick' Eldar mech list, to the point where I won't play without them.

Maybe it's just my bad luck, but when I try it out without spirit stones my flying cars always get stunned and end up being [intercourse]d in the [waste ejector].

And by the way; according to Warseer, Eldar mech without Scorpions will suck horribly because apparently you can't clear objectives. :p

What 10x tank shocks don't work Thud? Jeez.

Thud said...

Tank shocking units off objectives is just a cheap trick! Damn, Kirbs! Get with the program! Oh, and Vypers suck too, cause they're only AV10 and, OMFG, open-topped! And only noobs who can't play Eldar like a man use Fire Dragons.

*groan*
