"Alright man, it’s Tyrantor here. Not sure if you’ll remember the small chat we had on Vassal a couple of days ago.
Basically, I’ve been toying around with the idea of Tyrannofexen in 1.5k as a massive block and offensive unit.
So far I’ve come up with something along the lines of:
== HQ ==
Tyranid Prime (1) - Rending Claws, Scything Talons, Regeneration = 90 pts.
== Elites ==
Hive Guard Brood (3) = 150 pts.
Hive Guard Brood (3) = 150 pts.
Venomthrope (1) = 55 pts.
== Troops ==
Termagant Brood (10) - Fleshborer = 50 pts.
Termagant Brood (10) - Fleshborer = 50 pts.
Tervigon (1) - Cluster Spines, AG, Toxin Sacs, Cat, Onslaught = 210 pts.
Tervigon (1) - Cluster Spines, AG, Toxin Sacs, Cat, Onslaught = 210 pts.
== Heavy Support ==
Tyrannofex (1) - Rupture Cannon, Cluster Spines, Thorax Swarm - Desicctor Larvae = 265 pts.
Tyrannofex (1) - Rupture Cannon, Cluster Spines, Thorax Swarm - Desicctor Larvae = 265 pts.
== Total ==
1495 pts."
In terms of list this is fine IMO. You've got a lot of high toughness wounds at 1500 points and enough firepower to drop tanks though if you don't have at least average spawns infantry strong armies could be a pain to deal with if your MCs get bogged down. Not sure what you mean by using T-Fexes as offensive blocks though...
Edit: this wasn't clear here apparently but what I meant here is the list is imbalanced at this points level. A lot of the time your opponent just isn't going to be able to stop that many wounds but if your opponent can deal with your MCs, your list falls apart. At higher point levels with this core setup you have enough points around your MCs to support them and actually pose significant threat outside of them so if you're looking to run a more balanced list, you'll need to look for support outside of the MCs themselves. Sorry if that wasn't clear before!
"Obviously this list is needing a little bit of refining, and I was hoping you could help with that. Basically, the Tyrannofexen and Tervigons (on oval bases) are on their sides for maximum coverage.

The VenomPrime unit then goes behind the Tyrannofex, which would deny LoS to that unit (The Prime is there for little wounds that would annoy the Venomthrope (fecking Psyfleman Dreds..)) and the Hive Guard beside this unit. The whole thing is wrapped in Gaunts to give it that “Please please don’t assault me” feel. Counter-attack and Dangerous Terrain tests upon assaulting? Yes please.
Anyway, the main reason I’m making this list is so that it can throw down with my mate’s Blood Angels (Twin Raider, Mephiston) and Arch’s Space Wolves (JotWW – OH SHI-). The latter is going to pose a problem. Wanting to show that, while ‘Nids might not be a top tier army, they can still throw down with the best of them. That’s what I’ve been saying to guys at my club, that’s what I’ve been saying on Vassal but no one seems to actually think it. GK may be a difficult one though, for ‘Nids anyway.
Anyway, I’m ranting, I tried for redundancy but at these points levels it’s kind of difficult. Still, think I’ve pulled it off, and would think that my only HUGE qualm is the single Venomthrope.
Let me know what you think, it’s largely throeyhammer at this point because I won’t get to test it until next week.
Thanks,
Tyrantor"
Agree with the single Venom. You can drop a Hive Guard model to cover for it (your Tervigons should also be 220 points with two powers, I'd look to drop Onslaught). Both lists are going to prove problems to Tyranids. AV14 for Angels and general ability to drop MCs from the Space Wolves but it's a good list in regards to Tyranids regardless!

That aside, those MCs are only backup in melee. A Tyrannofex can slowly deal with a heap of non-powerfist guys, but you'd rather it be shooting. Frankly, about the best/only way you really want to commit that thing to an assault is unloading EVERYTHING onto the other guy (and hoping you don't get horrifically unlucky with the S5 large blast) and go in there to mop it up personally. Oh, and the other problem? Fearless wounds; even with a 2+ you're gonna lose combat with the little gribblies in the same fight.
I personally would rather see something like boneswords on the Prime, but I'm not sure where you'd get the points to do so unless you dropped onslaught off of your Tervigons, then I'm not sure what you'd do with the remainder.
The only other thing I can see is, I hope you hide the Venomthrope well; if the other guy has ANY high-AP long-ranged weapons, the 'thrope may very well become a priority if you make more than a couple of 5+ saves.

Upgrades on the Prime would be indeed welcome and this list at 1500 is more relying on it's strong showing of T6 and shooting than true combat prowess but yes, if the spawns are crap this list can struggle in combat without backup Raveners/Tyrant/multiple Primes/Warriors.

Against lists like this one my mech tends to not pay their points before getting destroyed or stunned into oblivion. So i fall back on my terminators and Mephie, which 'stealers would counter.

Thanks for the advice.
