"Heya Kirbs,
Working with my FW Mech Chaos Guard list right now, this is the one I'm thinking of taking to PAX West this year. I'd love for you to take a look at it.

Question is, I've had mixed responses on the meltagun/autocannon combo. I wanted to keep my infantry well-rounded but I feel it may be too general. Thoughts?
Cheers,

First I'd drop the Heavy Stubbers not needed. Then let's look at the mgun/autocannon look. You've got your basic Meltavets with just meltas which is fine and then six squads with at least one meltagun + autocannon in a Chimera with four of them being able to out-flank. It certainly gives the list options in regards to what they are capable of but they don't really scare anything, specifically the Infantry Platoons. They bring extra Chimeras and bodies to the table but 5 BS3 meltaguns and 4 BS3 autocannons? Not scary.
Outflanking Chimeras though can be a pain to your opponent. Not only do you bring some special weapons and with a degree of reliability thanks to IG rules but you have a bunch of S6 shots into the side armor of your opponents. So rather than run meltagun+autocannons I'd look at just running a meltagun and look to get your heavy firepower elsewhere.
So where from? We've saved some points from the autocannons and heavy stubbers and already have out-flankers so Scout Sents are going to bring too much to the table (and leaves the army wanting before reserves come in). A 3rd Vendetta (particularly at 2000+) wouldn't be a bad option but we need to think about what we have on the table when those Chimeras outflank and atm, that's not much. I'd look to be getting more Chimeras on the table and more firepower at the same time. This means meltavets, Storm Troopers (don't have to deploy in them) and probably some Heavy Weapon Teams. I'd steer away from the PBS unless you're going to get lots of them and even then, they really get hurt against armies with psy defense which is quite common now.
To do this I'd probably drop the Manticore and one of the CCS (+ the PBS obviously). The Manticore is pretty awesome but since quite a bit of your army (the outflanking Chims) is getting into your opponent's grill, you don't want too much scattering. This could be said of the Medusas as well but some Ord Blasts aren't going to go amiss. With these spare points we can now invest in more Chimeras and some HWTs for more firepower. The HWTs are obviously vulnerable to S6+ firepower but that's drawn away from your tanks and allows you to use orders more effectively (if you get a ton of HWT you could always keep the 2nd CCS). The extra Chimeras add weight in midfield and don't leave you out high and dry when your Infantry Platoon outflanks.
A lot to digest there but some key things.
- steer away from the meltagun + autocannon on infantry platoons; rather look to get direct firepower elsewhere
- when 1/2 of your chimeras are outflanking, you need more
- be careful how much ordnance you're bringing
With some of the changes discussed above I think you'll find a list which ends up behind more cohesive but I'm not sure how much time you have to change things!
