Vinsanity's Event Horizon List Options!!

Hai guise, I've got some Event Horizon lists today for your honourable perusal before me and the Great Pink One place our orders from Wayland... So I need your comments on the lists fairly quickly :) Anywho, all are 1850 no comp lists. Lets begin with:

White Scars 1850

Captain - Bike, Relic Blade
2 x 8 Bikes - PF, 2 x MGs, AB w/ MM
1 x 4 Bikes - 2 x MGs, AB w/ MM
1 x 4 Bikes - 1 MG, 1 Flamer, AB w/ MM
3 x 2 Typhoons - TML, HBs
2 x Predators - AC, HBs

29 Bikes
8 Vehicles

Pros: They are white scars! Plenty of bikes, MGs and MMs to take vehicles close up and speeders and preds to give some support from the back.

Cons: None, they are white scars! But srsly, 6 speeders are fragile, bikes are fairly fragile, bikes can't go up buildings, etc.

Next we have some of Stelek's creations with some minor tinkering. The first is the mass hydras, sentinels and HKMs list and the 2nd is the one with 3 dusas and 2 dettas and 2 ddogs. So list 2:

1850 Imperial Guard shooty

CCS - Flamer x1, Meltagun x2, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
PCS - Flamer x1, Meltagun x3, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
Infantry Squad - AC, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
Infantry Squad - AC, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
Infantry Squad - AC, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
Infantry Squad - AC, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
Veteran Squad - Flamer x1, Meltagun x2, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
Veteran Squad - Flamer x1, Meltagun x2, Chim, ML, HB, HKM
2 x Scout Sentinels - ACs, HKM
2 x Scout Sentinels - ACs, HKM
2 x Hydra Flak Tank - HBs, HKM
2 x Hydra Flak Tank - HBs, HKM
2 x Hydra Flak Tank - HBs, HKM

1800 POINTS ATM - Need suggestions to fill up remaining 50...

18 Vehicles
70 Infantry

Pros: Lots of firepowah. Lots of armour. Lots of infantry. Lots of HKMs.
Cons: Seems fragile when enemies close in quickly..., transporting this biatch.

So with 50 points left, I can do the following: Add 1 sentinel - AC, HKM for 50; add 2 lascannons to Vets for 50, other stuff like upping flamers to MGs and adding sniper rifles, etc to infantry...

Anywhoozle, list 3 is another Stelek invention with tinkerings.

1850 Imperial Guard balanced

CCS: 2 Flamers, 2 Meltaguns Master of the Fleet, Chimera: Multilaser, Heavy Flamer.
Veterans: 1 Flamer, 2 Meltaguns, Chimera: Multilaser, Heavy Flamer.
Veterans: 1 Flamer, 2 Meltaguns, Chimera: Multilaser, Heavy Flamer.
Veterans: 1 Flamer, 2 Meltaguns, Chimera: Multilaser, Heavy Flamer.
Vendetta Gunship: 3 TL Lascannons
Vendetta Gunship: 3 TL Lascannons
2 Devil Dogs: Meltacannons, Heavy Flamers.
Psyker Battle Squad: 9 Psykers, Chimera: Multilaser, Heavy Flamer.
Psyker Battle Squad: 9 Psykers, Chimera: Multilaser, Heavy Flamer.
Medusa
Medusa
Medusa

1850 Total
55 Infantry
13 Vehicles

Pros: Lots of blasts, lots of firepowah too, at high strength. Lots of armour, etc...
Cons: Only 3 troops, reliance on blasts to pwn stuff.

So there you have it mentlegen and ladies, my options for purchase for benefit from glorious wayland, then to get tabled 5 times at EH and win best sport :D

Well White Scars are White Scars, which imediatly makes them awsome!

I like the 1st guard list, but i'm not sure if it would handle av 13/14 all to well.

The 2nd Guard list is very, very scary, to me at least. It probably gets my vote of the 3, though thats with only a few minutes thought put into it.

I agree here Clay. I think the third list (i.e. the 2nd Guard list) is my fav all around. It has the most firepower and definitely has the "fear" factor to it, in that your opponent will instantly have some fear in playing it kowing that he's facing a bunch of nasty templates and ranged AT from the get go.

I do agree though it is short on scoring units and if anything I'd recommend dropping the second PBS and get another Vet squad. Three scoring units could be risky in objective missions with 5 objectives.

not sold on the whitescars list, pure bikes seem to work better and the preads look a little out of place...

the first guard list is the one i would go for. drop the hkm from the hydras (overkill) and put the points toward another pair of scout sentinels and a third melta on the ccs. the second guard list is nasty, but three guard troops is a little too weak for me.
Preds and bikers work fine, but your missing a little comm squad hammer unit vincey - i dont think you can skimp on that. Try dropping the 4 man squad, and maybe a couple of speeders, and putting in a 3 stormshield, 2 x claw, 1 x fist, and 3-4 x plasma rifle/2 plasma 2 melta command squad. Gives you a bit of CC punch, rapid fire plasma is nice for dealing with things your list hates (monstrous creatures?) and is fairly tough at T5 FnP.

Dont like the shooty guard list, seems fragile.

Bikers absolutely do *not* need a command squad to work. Is a command squad a decent unit? Yes it is, but at the same time it is expensive and any army you can't beat in CC with normal bikers you can simply run away from anyways.
Agree with willy here. I made the list for him (had to have one Kirby list in there! lol) and said if he wanted a command squad drop the Preds and a small Biker squad but don't bling it too much. Single rocks are single rocks and I'd be looking for more firepower i.e. plasma or meltaguns and a couple combat weapons. It's certainly an option but this list is all about mobility and pure dakka.

The shooty IG is freaking scary until you start whacking things with hammers and grenades whilst the balanced IG...well it's IG but I think 30 Vets is a bit light on scoring since they are his main melta source as well.
Bikers without command squad is dead. Tried and true test over a year for me, the lack of CC will show, even with the speed you have. You pay the points, but you will need cc to win games, currently you have no cc ability.

Lack Librarian for Psy defence, and Preds (although good) does not suit this list.
IG list no 2, but drop de PBS for more scoring.
Mneh, somewhere kind of between the 2 IG lists for me.

Where to start, this could easily turn into a rant if I'm not careful. Hmm, basically, I don't think sit back and shoot guard are very good, they have some very bad matchups (anything that can get to their lines gives them fits). Now, with the IG book, there's a few units I feel you need to take advantage of: Vendettas, Meltavets, and the Astropath. Now, I appreciate you don't need to go all out with these units (even 2 units of meltavets should be enough, just to get some melta in your army), but I would strongle recommend you go with 3 vendettas and an Astropath. I would not recommend the OotF. An astropath will rarely work out against you, but an OotF can quite often. For example, if I'm holding troops back (to keep them alive versus firepower) the later they come on, the better. Whereas an astropath will only work against you really if you've reserved something and are going first. As chances are, your reserves are more likely to come on.

Ok, it's turning into a rant. May as well go all out with it then.

For troops, I do truly believe that Meltavets are far and away the best thing in there. However, I understand people (for reasons unknown to me) don't want to spam them. You can certainly make do with other units.

Guard heavy support is something I don't really rate. This is probably because defensive Imperial Guard armies scare me nowhere near as much as ones that drive 10+ tanks at me and go "you have a turn to deal with these." Now it's not that clear cut, but it is certainly scary. From looking and playing against the guard book the only unit I do really rate from there is the Leman Russ Demolisher. This thing is nice. It's not too expensive, and lays down some impressive anti tank fire. The only problem is it's fairly counter productive. By it's very nature it wants to be up close, supporting meltavets and things. Problem is it can scatter, and you do not want that thing hitting your own troops. However, if you're going for a more stand-off ish army, then sure, it's not a bad add.
One unit I do want to call out is the Psyker Battle Squad. Now, I know some people really don't like these guys, but they do "autowin" versus some builds. For example, units of TH/SS hate them. As do TWC-stars, nob bikerz, beastmaster herds... basically any big non fearless non stubborn unit. It's fantastic. Yes they're definitely hit or miss, but they barely break the bank, and have a scary long range.

So, conclusion for this? I don't advise going the "sit in your own deployment zone and shoot stuff up" route. It's easily countered by some armies. You better just pray you draw DE. I would certainly go for something more aggressive.

Probably something like Meltavets, CCS, 3 Vendettas. Make sure and take an Astropath, it helps Vendettas a lot. Don't rate shooty guard, sorry. :P
