Email in: 2000 Dark Eldar list

"Hi Kirby.

Like the blog and thought, "hey why not send in a armylist and see how slaughtered the idea will be". Well really the idea behind this list is a DE Leafblower. Yeah i know i'm putting out AV 10 tanks on the table instead of the more durable ones IG presents. Well as a DE player i do not have much of a choice. Anyway, this list is nothing new. just my take on a leafblower version of the darklight spam.

I am not bothered with the fact this list is pretty much copy & paste, it looks fun and hopefully it will do enough damage.

The question i have been playing with is if i should try and fix up the raiders a bit more giving them flickerfields and such. If i would do so that will cost me one of the warrior units. I would gain a few more trueborns with blasters so the shooting will remain the same but one less scoring, one less target and more marbles in the same bag. Would be nice to hear what you have to say about this.

Thanks.

List overall is solid but a few things. You're running the Duke so I'd prefer to see Reavers than Scourges as they are going to benefit from the combat drug double roll. The missile upgrades aren't really needed on the Razorwing and I do question whether or not the Razorwing is necessary at all. You'll have plenty of splinter fire so do you need those four missiles? Dropping this down to a Ravager will save you quite a bit of points (which you can use to upgrade the Scourges to Reavers).

I don't really like the small Warrior squads in the Raiders though. I'd prefer them to either be larger or in Venoms. What I might do then is drop one of the Trueborn squads and grab a Haemonculus so you can have some Wracks as Troops. Grab two of those squads and stick them in Raiders with a Liquifier gun and change the other four Warrior squads to 5x w/Blaster + Venom. This gives you 6 Venoms so you don't need the flickerfields on the Raiders/Ravagers. You lose one unit without the 3rd BlasterVenom but you have the three Reaver squads and still are running six Troops.

In terms of it being a 'leafblower' type list. No. Dark Eldar and Imperial Guard run completely different styles beyond the whole concept of leafblower being a non-optimised list.

Yea, this list is a little too fragile for me. Having only 5 man warrior squads in raiders gives them one of two quick fates, jumping out into mid field to get off the blaster shot where you are vulnerable to rapid fire and assaults, or dying in the inferno that is your blown up raider. 5 is not enough cushion, and counting on jumping out into cover in mid-field while likely, is not going to happen for that many units.

This isnt leafblower, its the leaves being blown. At 2000 points your opponent will have have quite a bit of units to deal with you.
So options:

1. Go up to 10 man squads and give them some longer range firepower. I prefer 1 blaster and 1 splinter cannon in my 10 man units. Although a single lance also works. I often run both types, 2 units of each. Do not forget that the simple splinter rifle has a 24" range and can lay down some good anti infantry firepower into midfield.

2. Give your trueborn two dark lances instead. This way they stay out of rapid fire range, and can remain in cover firing their long range guns.

3. I agree with Kirby on this one. If you are going heat lances, lets move to reavers and take advantage of the combat drugs.

4. The heavies should cover weaknesses elsewhere. I prefer my razorwing with two disintegrators, standard missles, and splinter cannon. Gives me 12 shots 6 S5 ap2 and 6 Poison ap5 + missles. The Ravagers are fine as they are.
If you want to run the scourges drop the duke and run a barebones haemon, switch the razorwing to a ravager, swap 2 of those warriors squads to 2 MSU wrack units in raiders to sit back and provide cover for your ravagers and you should have enough points to boost a couple of the warrior units to 10men with a darklance. Maybe swap the last few warrior raiders to venoms for extra poison pewpew.

I think the scourges are good, but should be given haywire blasters so they can supress enemy firepower from turn one.
Hey hey. Thanks for the response on the list. Ive been toying around some more the last couple of days since i sent the list in and here is my result.

Archon 60

5 warriors: blaster in venom with 2 x splinter cannon 125
5 warriors: blaster in venom with 1 x splinter cannon (short 10p,, i know a haemo would save 10 but i'l get to that later) 115
5 warriors: blaster in raider with dark lance 120

Ravager: 3 dark lances, flickerfield 115
Ravager: 3 dark lances, flickerfield 115
Ravager: 3 dark lances, flickerfield 115

Total: 1998

So ive took a few advices here and there. Another famous blogger vrote about using Dark Lances insteed of blasters for example, just to utilize the ability to stay back and not have to risk your troops mid field while shooting. I'm going to give it a ago atleast.

So what do you think about this one? Better Worse? I have to mention that i play in a pretty competetive surrounding. There are strong lists and good opponents. We usually use tournement scenarios from a tourny that runs twice a year in a town nearby so i am keeping that in mind aswell.

EDIT: Well there is of course a way to get that second splinter cannon on the warrior venom, i could just use a Haemonculus insteed of Archon to obtain the cheapest HQ possible but i will draw the line here. This is a cabal of warriors going to war, the least i can do is bring their archon :)

Lady Malys would be a great addition here. I would take the Scourges with Haywire Blasters instead if you are looking to play a more ranged game and drop the flickerfields which should be enough to upgrade the Archon to Malys and maybe upgrade the crap Venom to good Venom.
Yeah not a bad thought but no Malys for me, i'l just keep the Archon for the fluff reason insteed of a Haemonculus, with the compsystem thats being used in sweden also Archon give a bonus so.

Haywire blasters are cool, but not sure i want to drop the flickers on ravagers, you find that fighting without flicker there works well?
You've got the Venoms to provide cover so they generally should have it.

as this looks like it is mostly ranged, i suggest night shields. they are 10 pts, but can save your vehicles from ranged weapons from across the board. I never leave home without all my vehicles given night shields and flickerfields. (flickerfields are defiantly worth it, can save the model for only 10 pts). all vehicle upgrades are a gamble, as almost all of the vehicles are 11 armor at best.

I suggest scrap one squad of scourges and upgrade the archon or get a different hq unit.
