Email in Orks: Honey, I married a Jerk

Hi Fester,

After the article about "playing like a jerk", the wife has logged onto 3+++ and devoured all the articles about Orks.  I'm glad someone gets value from my ramblings! She firmly believes that Battlewagon lists are pointless versus Space Wolves and hates horde lists.  As such she came across the MVB/yours vehicle spam list and has come up with the following list:

LONG LONG Post (Taak would be proud of me)
TL,DR. There are 3 lists to consider at the bottom I'm sorry but this is like 1/3rd the length of Taak's posts.

1750 Pts - Codex: Orks Roster
Total Roster Cost: 1747
Big Mek , Kustom Force Field
3 Meganobz, Shoota/Rokkit Kombi-weapon x1 + Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon x1, Trukk
3 Meganobz, Shoota/Rokkit Kombi-weapon x1 + Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon x1, Trukk
29 Boyz,  Big Shoota x2, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole, Power Klaw, Big Shoota
10 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk, Reinforced Ram
11 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk, Reinforced Ram11 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk, Reinforced Ram
11 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk

2 Rokkit Buggies
2 Rokkit Buggies
2 Rokkit Kans
2 Rokkit Kans
2 GrotZooka Kans
She has the following explanations for the choices:
Meganobz are there in place of Nobz as she finds them more reliable in detroying vehicles and monstrous creatures than Deffrollas/Loota's.
The big boyz unit is a replacement of a 6 strong Nobz unit.  This is there to move into midfield and hold/contest any objectives midfield. She also hopes that they will be a low priority target turns 1 - 3 because of the large number of vehicles and the speed at which they move.  She isn't sure about this unit in particular as it seems so out of place but she was finding that the small boyz units did not have the staying power to last to turn 4 and 5.
Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to cut in here and add my 2c. I like the list. At 1750 it is punching out 18 vehicles, which is nasty. However, I think we can do better. The Trukks are too flimsy, and wont see T2 versus a reasonable SW list, which is a shame. With the playtesting of my list I too am finding that the Trukk boyz squads are a little flimsy. How I intend to combat this is still to be decided! We might end up with an answer by the end of this post. Let's wait and see!

I will say this though: I disagree on the Battlewagons. They are going to die, yes, yes they will. However, there is a MUCH higher chance of them getting across the board intact than what the Trukks have. I think mix-and-matching them is going to be important.

PS:  the old list was this:
HQ:
1 Warboss (Stikkbombs; 'Eavy Armour; Ammo Runt; Attack Squig; Cybork Body; Big Choppa; Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon)
14 Lootas
3 Meganobz (Twin Linked Shoota; Shoota/Rokkit Kombi-weapon x1; Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon x1), Trukk
3 Meganobz (Twin Linked Shoota; Shoota/Rokkit Kombi-weapon x1; Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon x1), Trukk

1 Nobz (Count as Troop), Trukk (Big Shoota)
1 Painboy (Dok's Tools; Stikkbombs; 'Urty Syringe)
1 Nobz (Bosspole; Stikkbombs; Waaagh! Banner; Slugga; Power Klaw)
1 Nobz (Stikkbombs; Power Klaw; Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon)
1 Nobz (Stikkbombs; Big Choppa; Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon)
2 Nobz (Stikkbombs; Slugga; Big Choppa)
2 Nobz (Stikkbombs; Choppa; Slugga)

11 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk, Boarding Plank11 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk, Boarding Plank
11 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk
11 Boyz, 1 Boyz Nob, Bosspole + Power Klaw, 1 Trukk

2 Rokkit Buggies
3 Rokkit Buggies

Total Cost: 1749

This also isn't a bad list to be honest. The issue with both lists is that basically everything can be stopped by bolter fire, being AV10 and open topped. You don;t have the target saturation to make Mr Jerk's firepower irrelevant
*cough* *cough* Ah, back to normal colour.

So it looks like you have no lack of models to work with in your list, so let's have a play and see what we get.

Start with the basics.

KFF Mek
3 Trukk Boyz Squads
6 Buggies
Straight up, 751 points. I have given the Trukks a Reinforced Ram so they can Ram/Tankshock and reroll Terrain tests.

So that leaves us almost 1000 points to burn.
We have options here open to us.
For 1000 points we can try and add some different ideas and see how we go.
- 4 Battlewagons, Nobs and some boys to ride.
OR
- 9 Kans, some Battlewagons like Mike's list
OR
- Go a 2nd Mek and throw down a metrics craptonne of walkers.

Let's list them out

1. Battlewagons

Big Mek, KFF, Burna (I had points to burn on a burna, get it!)
3 MegaNobs, Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla
3 MegaNobs, Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla
3 MegaNobs, Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
10 Gretchin, RuntHerd
2 Rokkit Buggies
2 Rokkit Buggies
2 Rokkit Buggies
Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla
Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla
Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla

So, for 1749 pts, we have:
6 Battlewagons, 3 Trukks, 6 Buggies and a KFF bubble. Some long range shooting, and wall of AV14 to get through. This worked out better than the 4 I thought I could squeeze in.
Now, I know you don't think Wagons are useful, but I tend to disagree. For 115 points, kitted as I have, they are a steal and make a great mess of a rhino/razorback, and are immune to most shooting from the front.
The grots obviously go and hide in a wagon to make it scoring.
15 Vehicles, 6 of which are AV14. Not a way to make friends, let me tell you!
Try this out, borrow some LandRaiders or something and give it a shot. You will be surprised how resilient they are.
If you want to get some more troops, drop 1 MegaNob + Wagon, which will net you 2 14-15 man boyz squads (if my guessing math is correct)

 2. MVB's List with a Combat Tweak

Warboss, Mega Armor, Cybork, Bosspole
Big Mek, KFF 3 MegaNobs, Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla
3 MegaNobs, Battlewagon, Big Shoota, DeffRolla (Troops)
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
2 Rokkit Buggies
2 Rokkit Buggies
2 Rokkit Buggies
3 Grotzooka Kans
3 Grotzooka Kans
3 Grotzooka Kans

This time, we are pushing 20 vehicles. The warboss rides with MANz and so does the Mek (obviously). The Kans aren't in range for 1 turn, but 6 S6 shots torrents MEQ well, and can seriously hurt a parking lot with the scatters. Remember, BS3 so its not a super-terrible scatter.
Also, lots and LOTS of S8/S10 PK's there too.

3. Dread Bash (turns out its more a Gorka-Morka list, hammer-and-anvil)

Big Mek, KFF
Big Mek, KFF
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
11 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw), Trukk (Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram)
21 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw)
21 Boyz, Nob (Bosspole, Power Klaw)
DeffDread, 2 Kustom Mega Blastas
DeffDread, 2 Kustom Mega Blastas
3 Rokkit Buggies
3 Rokkit Buggies
3 Rokkit Buggies
3 Grotzooka Kans
3 Grotzooka Kans
3 Grotzooka Kans

Well, this looks a bit crazy! So we have something like 22 vehicles, all with shooting, KFF save (presumably), 2 big boyz squads with their own cover, and lots of craziness thrown in! In all honesty, this is a much tougher looking list than I originally invisaged.

Righto, so there you have it. Based on what I am going to call "the MVB core", which I am defining as Trukk boyz, KFF Mek, and Rokkit buggies, We have 3 different, and damned scary (in my opinion) lists all of which should do reasonably well against most Wolf lists.I would love to see you try out all 3 and get back to us with some pics and some battle reports!

As an aside, Orks vs Wolves is one of our worst matchups. Why?
Orks do most of their damage on the charge. This takes away the charge bonus from the enemy, gives us FC and lets us krush them. Unfortunately, a counter-attacking space wolf hits as hard as us, and faster, so we never tend to fare well.
