"Hi Kirby!
I've never used "super unit" lists before, but I wanted to try my hand at making and maybe playtesting a viable list.
Trying for a 2000 pt mech marine build. Obviously at the core we have:
HQ:
Vulkan He'stan (190)
Elite:
5x THSS Terminators (200)
attached LR Redeemer (240)
5x THSS Terminators (200)
HS:
LR Redeemer (240)
Which leaves us with just under a sad 1000pts with which to build the rest of our army. At this point I really have no clue what can support the terminators that's not just two 1000 pt lists smashed together.
This is what I considered briefly.
HQ:
Librarian with Null Zone and Avenger (100)
Troops:
5x Tactical Squad with LasPlas-Back (165)
5x Tactical Squad with LasPlas-Back (165)
5x Tactical Squad with LasPlas-Back (165)
5x Tactical Squad with LasPlas-Back (165)
HS:
Predator Destructor with Heavy Bolters (85)
Predator Destructor with Heavy Bolters (85)
I'm a little sad that it can't capitalize on Vulkan's army special (ZERO meltas!).
What is your take on this list?
Thanks!"
You said yourself you’re not really taking advantage of Vulkan in this situation so you have to ask yourself, why take him? You really need to either drop him or the Librarian as 290 points in HQs + 900 points in two units plus delivery systems is way too much. I’d also look to run a Crusader + Redeemer or 2x Crusaders rather than double Redeemer who suffer more from immob results than the Crusader.
So with all those points sunk unto the Terminators, Land Raiders and HQ you need to a reliable way to score and pop tanks. Luckily Space Marines have some pretty cheap options with Dreads, Speeders, Tacticals and Predators. You have two real options with scoring, 5-man plasmaback squads or 10 man rhino squads. If you’re using Vulkan you want to maximise his usage so you’d be looking at Speeders as the majority of your points whilst the Librarian you can probably go for a mix.
Here’s a previously done double Raider rock list with a Libby but tbh in this day and age the list has serious issues. Any list which can stop the Raiders at range of has sacrificial melta (i.e. most lists) to throw in front of the Raiders will slow it down a lot. Ultimately too many points have been sunk into too few units which can be neutralised.
