Battle Report: Grey Knights vs Grey Knights
Posted by

A mirror match! This is an exercise in non-ally 6th edition as there is a non-ally tournament coming up in Australia - where else? Randomly rolled mission and we thankfully got Hammer & Anvil - something I've been meaning to play more of and thus the battle report online. We also got Scouring, Night Fighting and two useless Warlord traits. I won roll-off for objective placement/side and put as many in midfield as possible - I had the advantage in terms of raw numbers and with GK v GK, this meant a more aggressive approach could work. I then won roll-off for deciding who went first and gave it to him.

ATC Wrap-up & Game Breakdowns

Again, sorry for no pics and full battle reports but I'm sure people would rather read about 6th by now, yes? Anyway, enjoy the Team picture. Go team! So last 5th edition games I shall ever play and we'll see how the oddyetsomehowdoingwell Blood Angel list goes!
Bolded details give game number, army opponent and state opponent and mission along with whether or not I was matched (our team choose the game) or put-up (opponent choose the game) and what type of match-up the game was (Red = bad; Yellow = neutral; Green = good).

So today got a game in with Vince so decided to take some pictures. Acotez + Deathwing against Lysander Marines. We rolled a random mission and got Relic with Vanguard deployment. Night Fight in effect Turn 1, Warlord trait useless for Vince, Move Through Cover within 12" of my Warlord. Lists are below.

High Lords of Terra - Game 1: Tyranids vs Blood Angels

I know this, and the following, are 5th edition battle reports but hopefully it's still pertinent in terms of a learning exercise, etc. you just had to adapt it a bit within the 6th edition construct. I'll likely combine the final four battles into two posts of two each though.
The mission was an objective based mission with set objectives. Three along the table centre (lengthwise) 18" apart and two along the table centre (widthwise) in each deployment zone, 6" from the table edge. Deployment was pitched battle. Central objectives were worth one point each, objective in your DZ was worth zero to you, three to your opponent, and objective in your opponent's DZ was worth three to you, zero to opponent.
Game was against Jason Collins using Vince's Blood Angels. I won roll-off and elected to give first to Jason.

Vassal Bat Rep

SirBiscuit and I did some Vassaling today so I decided to record one of our games and do a voice over. It's Vassal so not the best depiction of play but hopefully you get the general gist. I've sped the video up and taken snapshots at each phase of play and added in a voice over. Let me know what you think in terms of this style of bat rep when real games are unavailable.
Edit: so of course my video software didn't work. It recorded, but didn't work so rather than a commentary battle report we'll just look at some things that cropped up in relation to the new edition. (end game picture above)

Event Horizon Battle Report Game 5: Blood Angels vs Necrons

Semi-finals! I made it. Now to just go a bit further... Game 5 was against Rupert and his Scarabfarm who made the top 4 at 3++con, too. Mission is two objectives primary with them placed in non-deployed quarters (deployment is spearhead) and secondary is table quarters. Basically modified C&C with a secondary. Again, no KP which is good for me and once again, Mephiston is the trump card. Nothing he has can really go toe-to-toe with Mephiston for any length of time and he can easily deal with whole squads through sweeping advance or instant death so I just need to make sure he keeps on trucking. Lightning strikes are going to screw with my vehicles so stopping that ASAP should be my top priority. Unfortunately, I don't think about this. There is also a video feed for this report which I'm editing currently, will add up when it's done.

Event Horizon Battle Report Game 4: Blood Angels vs Space Marines

Day 2 has arrived! It looked like I was playing Julian the night before (would rather play him later in the day ;)) but ended up getting Rohnan whom I hadn't played before, but know. He's had a good tourney record past year and a half and was given a special reward for this (don't know if it's been announced so not saying what it is...)! So first congrats to him. Second, time to beat him :P.
I had gone over what I knew of the lists the night before with some brief thoughts (I knew there was a double Stormraven BA, Scarabfarm, Julian's Necrons, Fatecrusher & Rohnan's Marines) and the first two missions were the best possible for me against all of these lists - no Kill Points at all. Game 4 was table quarters primary with objectives secondary and Dawn of War deployment. Rohnan's list looked the following whilst mine can be found here:

Game 3 was against Grant O'Dwyer and was filmed*, my Round 1 opponent from Leviathon. Re-match time! Mission was Spearhead with Table Quarters primary and Kill points secondary (so 3 KP Missions Day 1, I was worried about this heading in with an MSU army in being knocked out before the top 8). Grant was using a very Grey Hunter heavy list with four near full squads + character and Wolf Guard support. Add in some Thunderwolves for big hitting power and Scouts for utility and the only thing lacking from his list was firepower - he still had some Long Fangs and other ranged weapons (CML, plasma, Rune Priest, etc.) but it wasn't what we expect from SWolves. One too many characters IMO which could have bought another fire support unit.

Event Horizon Battle Report Game 6: Blood Angels vs Chaos Daemons

So unfortunately I'm having some issues with the video feed for Games 3 & 5 - unless you want to watch the full two hours at least... Because the frame rate is so slow (8 FPS), whenever I re-render them with an improved frame rate they start jumping and skipping. I've got game 6 to work though at a sped up pace (around a 28 min video) so Game 6 comes up before the other games and, well it's the tournament final so what's not to love! I've added commentary as well and you can see both Part 1 and Part 2 below. The normal text & picture based battle report can be seen below as well - you can use the video alone, not at all or in conjunction with the text/pictures! I think looking at both gives you the most complete picture but that's me.

Game 2 was against Gary Morris (winner of bracket 4 at 3++con) and his Grey Knights. Mission was Kill Points primary with three diagonal objectives secondary and Dawn of War. Gary only had 10 Kill Points compared to my 18 and there were a lot more easier KP on my side of the board than on his. I won roll-off again and gave him first turn, particularly since it was Dawn of War.
My list can be found here and his list below. Sorry again for some 'solar pulsed' photos.

Event Horizon Battle Report: Blood Angels vs Tau
Posted by

You can see my list here. First game was five objectives primar in the X formation and 2KP marginal as secondary with Pitched Battle deployment. Lee's Tau list was Broadside, Deathrain Crisis and Kroot heavy - good core units but a bit lacking in that little extra bit such as plasma rifles and Pirhanas. I won roll-off and because he lacked these options, gave him first turn. Yes, that meant I took 8 Broadsides to the face - it really meant nothing to my ASM moving up into midfield (which Pirhanas could have blocked, Plasma could have shot). On the flip side, I had reactionary deployment with some nice terrain pieces and the ability to move onto those objectives last.
You're going to have to excuse the photos as well - I kept getting put on tables where the sun was creeping across and photos of half light, half dark suck :P.

Leviathon Battle Report - Game 5: Mech Blood Angels v DoA Blood Angels

And the final BA mirror match against a DoA based army. Mission was table quarters (with most number of Troop units in Table Quarter = controlling) with secondary being who has the most scoring units in enemy Deployment Zone. Deployment was Spearhead. With two very mobile armies, Table Quarters would be quite interesting, particularly if the opponent's DoA deepstruck. My mobility was more limited in that I was relying upon my mech to get my places and meltaguns are very good at stopping that :P. Beyond that it would again be a case of who gets the charge on whom.

Leviathon Battle Report - Game 4: Mech Blood Angels v Stormraven Blood Angels

Edit: I'm re-adding the pictures currently guys, sorry they got warped when posted for some reason.
The second of three mirror matches! This one was against a Stormraven based list with supporting Razorbacks. The mission was a standard rulebook one with five objectives placed in the centre of the board alternatively by players with Kill Points as secondary. Deployment was Dawn of War. Opponent's army list was:
Mephiston
Chaplain
Furioso Dread
2x5x ASM w/LasPlas (one with meltagun, one with flamer)
5x Death Company w/3 Power Weapons
2x Stormravens

The final game of Day 1 - I was put up against a 2-0 player despite my single draw. The mission was Kill Points primary and a modified table quarters for secondary - player with greatest number of scoring units secured the Table Quarter. Deployment was Dawn of War.
My opponent's list looked like this:

Leviathon Battle Report - Game 2: Mech Blood Angels v Tau
Posted by

This was a modified capture & control where the objectives were placed in roughly the centre of opposite table quarters. Deployment was pitched battle and the secondary was whomever had more scoring units within 6" of the table centre. Against Tau the game plan is to get up into their faces and stay there - they aren't going to push me out of combat but with their impressive shooting they can and will wreck my mech if I give them long enough to shoot it down. My issue here is I really only have three shooting units to go toe to toe with the Crisis/Broadsides and with JSJ they can avoid my Marines relatively well once they are outside of transports.
Simon won the roll-off and elected to go first. His list looked like:

Leviathon Battle Report - Game 1: Mech Blood Angels v Foot/DoA Blood Angels

The first of three mirror matches... The mission was one of bean counters - five objectives and for each turn you own an objective (standard rules here) you gain a bean. However, beans work like reserves so the earliest you can start collecting is Turn 2. Beans are collected at the end of each player turn. Secondary was Kill Points, deployment was Spearhead.
With an MSU based army and speedy tanks, objectives work in my favor and beans adds a twist to this - I need to hold objectives throughout the game. I was playing against a non-mech BA list so whilst slower than me, they had the speed and troop numbers thanks to combat squads to keep up with me. It would be all about the charges! Opponent's list:

Battle Report: Mech BA v Mech GK
Posted by
Unknown
Continuing the masses of bat reps this week, we have the other BA v GK game and this one was a doozy. The reason I posted this was on later was to have the article on game plans done so we can reference it here. This is a practical example of what happens when you simply ignore your early movement plan when there was no reason to do so.
Game was Kill Points and Spearhead and I won roll-off and went first. I went first to get up the field as much as possible so I could put pressure on the Grey Knight army. With Spearhead and Kill Points, it was advantage GK in terms of mission but with my speed I should be able to neutralise the initial salvo and limit the area they are able to move back and shoot with.

Battle Report: Mech BA v Mech Grey Knights
Posted by

Some more BA games in-bound, these two against Loriness/Denis and his Grey Knights. Mission is capture & control, dawn of war. I win roll-off and hand over to Denis who picks the side with some nice LoS blocking terrain. He puts his objective down near one of these (where his infantry can hide behind a wall and not be seen whilst holding objective) whilst I place mine more towards midfield but greater than 3" away from a similar wall in midfield. This was a mistake since I had a Tactical squad (I know, right?) for the sole purpose of combat squadding to the backfield if necessary. This was a time it was necessary. Whilst my army was aggressive, placing my objective here also gave Denis ample access.

Battle Report: Blood Angels Mech versus Imperial Guard Hybrid

The second game was using a mech BA list done quickly off the top of my head utilising Rifledreads, Assbacks and fire support from the Fast Attack slot (Speeders + Bikes). Mech IG list was the same.
Mission roll-off was seize ground again with three objectives and spearhead deployment. IG won roll-off and elected to go first choosing the top right hand corner.
